A week's trip to Italy and I would normally be after traditional Italian cuisine and wine every night. However, this was in the German speaking Südtirol region very close to the Swiss and Austrian border. I researched the place in advance from a website devoted to beer and this place did well. I turned up about 19:30 and it wasn't too busy. A huge selection of beers served in porcelain tankards was a good plus. The menu was, unsurprising, very dominated by hearty meat dishes. However with the help of the waiter, we selected a vegetarian soup (cream of polenta soup) and a roasted goat's cheese dish which was either a starter or double sized portion as a main. That and a very tasty appetiser and some lovely smoky tasting rye and crisp breads made this a really enjoyable meal.With two beers and the food, the bill came to just â¬27 making it one of the best meals in a long while.

The country inn as it used to be: Lots of different rooms, filled every weekend-day to capacity for lunch and dinner. Honest, straight-forward country cuisine. Huge portions at very reasonable prices: One almost feels back in times long gone by, when this hotel was a stop for the stage-coaches, before negotiating the Alpine passes.

In the hamlet of Gomagoi, on the first ramps of the Stelvio Pass, this beautiful building welcomes you with its warm wooden stube and a professional and friendly staff. The kitchen is the best you can find in the area, especially for the meat dishes, prepared from an excellent raw material and very well cooked. Absolutely recommendable!

Panorama Pizza is a nice place to stop when you're in the area. They serve pizza all afternoon and are very accommodating to switch out toppings. The pizza itself had a nice thin crust and was crunchy. The staff was really friendly and although English was limited, they made the effort to make everything as clear as possible.

This place does not look special or appealing! Even inside it is not the restaurant of my choice. But the pizzas are fantastic! Traditional or very unconventional. First class!! we ordered pizzas and a carpaccio. All was very good quality. Pizzas were the second best in town, but still among the best I ever had so far. Means still very very good. The carpaccio was excellent as well. Service a bit on the cold side but ok. The abiding memory will be the warm reception & patience in breaking down the language barrier.We were well rewarded in eating lovely local dishes - it gives a true flavour of the place.Food was well presented & wonderfully hot, with good service.A lovely faultless experience & not in the least expensive.
