A modern take on the original Village restaurant (established in 1947), our reputation is for serving Baton Rougeâs finest Italian, Prime Beef, Maine Lobster, Veal and fresh Gulf seafood. The Downtown location features daily specials, a full bar and can a
My wife and i brough our son and daughter-in-law to this little restaurant in downtown Baton Rouge. It was Wednesday afternoon so parking was not an issue. Perhaps weekends would be different. We were seated and our waitress, Ashton immediately took our drink order. We ordered crabcake and Beef araceni for appetiziers as well as a loaf of their Italian bread. The crabcake (one one on the plate) was so-so. I've had better. The Araceni was vey good and large. We easily divided it up into fours. It was beefy with some vegetables covered with a few nice tomato sauce. The load of bread was to die for!! Very large in size, it came with roasted garlic, olive spread and olive oil. All four of us wiped it out in a matter of minutes, it was sooo good. I also had a cup of the lobster bisque. The bisque had a nice taste but there were no pieces of lobster in it. Our entrees consisted of veal parmigan, chicken parmigan, shrimp and pasta and chicken picatta as well as a side of baked lobster and mac cheese. We all had pasta with our entrée. .Each entree came with a side salad. All the entrees were very good. I found the chicken parmigan a little dry but mixed with the pasta, it was goodNeedless to say, with all those carbs, none of us could finish. The portions were very large. We finished it all off with bread pudding, compliments of the house in celebrating my son's anniversary. Total bill, with drinks and everything we had,was $210 which I thought was a bargin. Excellent meal. I highly recommend it and definitely will be back.

The meatballs were very good and my wife's Manicotti outstanding. However, my Spaghetti with Meatballs & red sauce was mediocre at best. Essentially angle hair pasta that was mushy and soggy. I could not taste the pasta for the hearty red sauce. Additionally, while the house salad was tasty, it was chopped so fine as to make it very hard to eat. Dull fork tines wouldn't pierce the leaves of the greens and we had to use bread to push it onto the forks. Decent service.

My wife and I and another couple had dinner here on Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Three of us had veal masala with a side of fettuccine Alfredo. The veal was very good, and the pasta was excellent - some of the best I have gotten in a restaurant. The Lawrence bread was also good. The service was not what I expected from a upscale restaurant. We had to ask for refills on our water. We all finished our first glass of wine and planned to order another glass, but it was not until the waiter was removing the plates that he asked if we wanted more wine. It was too late then. We had them split the ticket by couple, and the waiter did not get the split correct. There are other upscale Italian restaurants in the area, and I would go to one of them before returning to Gino's.
