We spent only one night there, but we would highly recommend it: the restaurant and the apartment were just amazing. And what was really surprising was the service: we arrived there late in the evening (around 10 pm) and they asked us what we wanted to eat, so they prepare a delicious salad with some antipasti, which was heaven for us. The attention was super, the place absolutely peaceful and charming.

Wonderful, wonderful food. Great service and just a fantastic evening. The best filet I've ever had in my life is US $15. House wine is fantastic, and the owner's daughter waits on you. My only wish is that we didn't find this place on our last night in town, because we would have eaten here every night! If you're staying at the Renaissance hotel, come here for your meals. It's so much more authentic, and half the price. Note: we also saw the opening time of 5:00pm that the prior commenter mentioned. This is a Google error though. The restaurant never mentions this anywhere. They may want to contact Google to get it corrected, but it's certainly not there fault :) The restaurant opens at 7:30 like every other one in town.

This is a very small restaurant with excellent food and service. We were extremely satisfied with everything we had and the service. Only four tables but wonderful food, magnificent service, and very reasonable prices. A leader of house wine was only seven euros and the meals were also very reasonably price. We had lamb chops and trout. We had an appetizer of salmon sashimi and asparagus with a cheese mousse. Everything was prepared and seasoned wonderfully and the people could not be more friendly. I would highly recommend this to be on your list if youâre in the area. The small size indicates reservation to avoid disappointment.

Il Triti was recommended to us by the owners of our hotel Villa Bertagni, which is not far away from Castelnuovo. We had to drive up and down the road to figure out the closest place to park which was the free lot near the supermarket. It's not right in the heart of the old town of Castelnuovo but we went for a walk through town after dinner that was short and sweet. After a short walk from the car we were seated immediately as at most places in Italy. Throughout the dinner there were family and friends of the owner/waiter/cook(?) coming in and sitting at a large table to eat and chat, which made the restaurant feel very cozy and homey. My wife ranked the food as tied for the best she had in Italy over two weeks. She ordered the minestrone which she called the best soup she's ever tasted and a tagliollini with ragu, and I ordered gnocchi with a Gorgonzola sauce followed by fried lamb chops with roasted potatoes. All fantastic. If you're in Castelnuovo and you can't get someone's mother to cook you dinner in one of the towns of the Garfagnana (or even if you can!) then this is some of the best food you'll find.

I just can't equate what we've experienced this evening with the rave reviews I read before we went! This was more of a 'workers' lunch' than a Sunday dinner. There were 6 first courses on the menu, one of which was unavailable, and 4 second, one of which was also 'off' (giving a choice of only THREE main courses). Given the very limited choice in the first place, I think one could at least expect everything to be available. There were only 2 side dishes on offer - fried potatoes and mixed salad; no other vegetables. If we'd been in the town, we would have left and gone to another restaurant. However, Da Lorietta is quite remote, so we stayed and I ended up having lukewarm spaghetti (not fresh) with an unseasoned tomato sauce and passed on a main as there was nothing, of the 3 on offer, that I fancied. My husband's veal was ok, but no more than ok. In fairness, prices were very modest and the service was pleasant enough. I just can't understand other reviewers' enthusiasm for the food. It's such a lovely building in such a beautiful spot but we won't be going back.

Dropped in here for lunch based on the good reviews. We were not disappointed. This place is like a fish shop/café/restaurant with seating inside and out. It is opposite a large car park- so parking was easy. The menu included a whole variety of pasta and gnocchetti with sauce of your choice ;marinara, vongole, crab- and so on: then a catch of the day: fritto calamari, shrimp and vegetables, stew: sea bass. the 4 of us had different dishes, they were all good as was the complimentary octopus starter. The staff are friendly and helpful. It was a lunchtime drive so unfortunately had to pass on the excellent wine choice. 42 Euro for 4.

Simple, limited menu and just a delight. Of the many places we are over a couple of weeks, this was among the most enjoyable. The cold meats appetisers are super, fresh and tasty pasta with pine nuts and lemon, a huge mixed grill and an even larger plate of local cheeses with polenta cakes. The service is the friendliest I have ever come across. A genuine and memorable experience.

A bustling, busy, big dining room. A group of 17, we had pre-ordered our choices. Drinks orders were fairly speedy. Food was slower in coming, but not really surprising under the circumstances. Well presented tasty food, reasonable prices, pleasant staff.

We inform our costumers and friends that Osteria Vecchio Mulino will be closed for holidays from 11th January to 1st February 2016.
The mushroom- and the truffelsalsa were an explosion of taste and the garlicy and fresh breadsalad was exquisite too. Andrea will help you to taste through a library of alcoholic beverages from all parts of the county, itâs a definite MUST SEE for everyone who has is passionate about anything. One wall of the osteria is over 1000 years old, thatâs a wisdom you can even taste!
