If you find yourself in Castellucio then a meal here is a must. They are very good at local dishes based on lentils. The service is good. They do get very busy at lunch time which is a good sign. A lot of locals eat here.

Bar Benite definitely serves the best âgelattoâ in Norcia! The other ice cream parlors look a lot more fancy, but Bar Benito has the best ice cream. Their lampone (raspberry) and fragolla (strawberry) ice creams are made from local fruits and taste amazing. The dark chocolate and amaretto ice creams are also to die for. As with most Italian gelato shops, cups simply come in different sizes. We went for the medium cups, which will only run you two euros, but contain a gargantuan amount of ice-cream (they even let you add as many flavors as you want, if you feel like trying them all!) Delicious, and more than worth your money!

Great service and personal attention. Nice Umbrian atmosphere. Found this place off the main tourist route. Had a local meat plate for an antipasto and a pasta with sausage and cream. Super!

We visited the earthquake devastated town of Norcia not realising this town was so badly affected. The spirit of the people is encouraging and we wanted to stay for lunch . The town is still well worth a visit and the townsfolk can be encouraged by tourists visiting and spending in the town during these difficult times. This Locanda is very welcoming and was well patronised during lunch. I had a local speciality the Wild Boar ragu pasta . If you are ever in Umbria , do yourself a favour and try this dish . I almost licked the plate . I do not remember what the little man had but he was seriously interested in my pasta once he had had his first try of it.

Norcia needs you to come and visit! After the dreadful earthquake last year and the detestation created, it's good to see they are open for business. We came back today, having visited pre-earthquake, we wanted to support the businesses who are still operating. Everyone makes you feel really welcome, waiting staff were super friendly, there is a menu in English. We shared a platter of Norcia meats, superb. Each had pasta dishes, wonderfully cooked, full of flavour and with silky smooth pasta - excellent. House red and house white were full of flavour and really good value. By the time we left the restaurant was full, mainly with locals. Please come and support Norcia and the lovely restaurant Il Cenacolo.

Ham, truffles, lentils... After being turned away from other more atmospheric, central and touristy places (sorry, we are fully booked!) we had some hard time finding a place when we came across to this little restaurant, hidden behind the Town Hall and the Monastery of St. Benedict...Inside has a nice environment, normal like any other restaurant... we had a plate of ham cuts (hand-cutted Norcia ham, how can we missed it!), tagliatelle dressed with wild boar sauce (8.00), mixed grilled meat (10.00), cheese dressed with truffles (9.00) with baked potatoes, salad and lentils as side dishes... lentils were.. to die for... we had the local beer, brewed by the monks of the monastery nearby (Birra Nursia, is possible to buy directly at the monastery too)Really good food. I won't hesitate to go again if back to Norcia in the future.

My wife and I and our son wanted to get out of Rome for a day (we live here) for a great Umbrian meal. We first visited Norcia and then went to Il Casale degli Amici, some 2-3 miles out of town. My wife and I are foodies, and the meal blew us away.Since it was January 1st and chilly outside, we decided to have every course. The antipasti platter of local cold cuts was exactly what we expected, since Norcia is home to some of the best salamis, sausages and cheeses in the world. We ordered three different pasta dishes to get a broad sampling of their offering and each was better than the last. We chose the creamy "lasagna alla Norcina tartufata" (with black Norcia truffles), the "pappardelle al cinghiale" and finally the veal-stuffed cappellacci. It was pasta heaven. We only had two second course among the three of us: the beautifully seasoned boar stew (bocconcini di cinghiale) and their braised veal, also with truffle sauce. They were superb. One of our favorite Italian wines is the Umbrian red Sagrantino di Montefalco, which comes from an area not far from where we were. We ordered one from 2010, which accompanied our courses perfectly. We ended the banquet with the homemade tiramisù, three caffés and a Sambuca (which they offered on the house). The remarkable total for the feast, including the premium wine? A very modest â¬115.One more thing needs mentioning. Despite the very full house for New Year's Day, the service was impeccable. All the wait staff was knowledgeable, competent, patient, unruffled and agile. Their training and coordination were evident. From our window at lunch we could see the little donkeys, sheep and cows kept by the agriturismo. After our meal, the staff gave us a bag of old bread for our son to feed to the donkeys, which thrilled him.All in all, the kind of experience of the best of Umbria that one dreams of.
