A mixed experience for this afternoon's lunch. We wanted to drop in for a great lunch while in town. By all accounts, we were hoping to be 'wow'd". Sadly that was not our experience. The good news was the congeniality of our waiter as we was engaging and personable; however the food did not match his example.A simple lunch. Two soups and a sandwich. The cream of tomato soup was excellent. Thick, hot and tasty. Nicely seasoned with a good amount of bread for dipping. The minestrone however was the complete opposite. Given that it was close to 7⬠a bowl I was expecting a work of art. Instead I got a thin broth, a few chunks of cauliflower, maybe some carrot pieces and a sliver of tomato. I asked the waiter if I had the right soup? There were no beans, no pasta orzo, no flavour!I also had a Indonesian sandwich. A nice size bun, in fact a huge one with a not so generous portion of season chicken and mushroom pieces. Nicely seasoned and the chicken was well cooked, nice a tender. The touch of sambal sauce added a nice flavour. So the tomato soup was a keeper, the thin excuse for a vegetable soup was a bust. The sandwich okay. Overall, Disappointed, especially having to wait close to 45 minutes, when we are the only ones in the place!

Friendly looking restaurant, promising menu, very helpful staff. However food needs more taste, so instead of an electronic system that is offered for getting attention from the waitress, a bit more attention towards the taste of the menu would be better

My wife and I first discovered Ristorante Salvatore back in 1984 while stationed in Brunnsum. This quickly became our all-time favorite restaurant, and the yard stick by which we have measured every Italian restaurant we've visited since. We recently returned to Europe and looked forward to returning -- thinking there's no way the food would taste as good as we remembered. My wife ordered the cannoli and I ordered the calzone. After the first bite we realized WE WERE WRONG! Although almost 30 years have past since our first visit, the restaurant is owned and managed by new people, the old recipes are intact, as is the quality. Definitely worth a visit!

new Italian restaurant
This restaurant is pretty big and busy so the service is a bit slow and when we visited last time also not really interested in the beginning. But the food is really good, price a bit high for this part of the Netherlands but definitely worth a visit. In the summer they have a nice garden in the back :)

Ristorante Il Castello has a cosy candlelit ambience. The extensive menu contains all aspects of classic Italian cuisine covering the usual soups and starters, fresh pasta, risotto, pizzas, salads and other meat and fish dishes. I chose well: "Penne dello chef" was a large portion of tasty pasta with a well flavoured rocket and gorgonzola pesto. The fresh "Insalata Mista" was large and interesting. Another colleague was also happy with his "Tagliatelle con Scampi". One other of my fellow diners was not so happy however. His meagre, steeply overpriced portion of "Saltinbocca alla Romana" contained unremarkable meat liberally dosed with an overpowering sage sauce. The pizza ordered by the last member of the party was fairly ordinary. The service was efficient but the unsmiling waitress somewhat to-the-point with a hard manner. I was happy with my food, if a little expensive, and would go again.

We stopped in here for lunch after a hospital visit, and loved it! There are only a few tables, but people came in and the food was so good they would stand at the counter eating it. We spoke with some other patrons, and there were several Italian people eating there, which speaks to its authenticity. The carbonara was very good, the pizza was probably the best weâve had in the Netherlands so far, and the people were very friendly. This was a great lunch experience-thanks!!

Who would expect such a restaurant in Heerlen ( No pun intended)? The chef and his spouse make you feel on Hollidays in Piemonte from the moment you step inside the small restaurant!A warm welcome, a passionate explanation of the menu, some honest suggestions and lots of love for Italy as a country and its food. The food itself is lush and honest, with a palate explosion of natural Italian tastes and structures. Paired with a recommended Italian wine it becomes heaven! When people love their job, love their country and cook with true passion this is what you can expect!Little Italy in Heerlen. And myself: whenever I can I will be back, and back,....and back again!Wonderful...
