We discovered this place because it was conveniently across the street from the hotel. The reviews were positive. The owners are wonderful, the wait staff was attentive. The wine choices fit, and the price was moderate. My wifeâs lasagna was great. Exactly what the doctor ordered. My spaghetti bolognese with shrimp and local muscles was OK. Muscles from the South Island are large and were a bit tough, in my opinion. The sauce was perfect. The spaghetti a bit over done. I happen to prefer spaghetti al dente. Mine was a bit too soft. Others might like their style. Suggestion: order the special.

Birthday celebration for me with my Mother, a first time Italian diner.Nice table away from the front door & possible draft.Service was attentive but not bothering you every five minutes enquiring whether everything is okay. Something which irritates me.Both had risotto's. Very nice. We shared a plate of profiteroles with our coffee's to finish.I would suggest eating inside on busy evenings as traffic noise could be intrusive.It was an enjoyable meal. Gave my Mum a bit of a taste for Italian.

Special menu to Valentines day.Was a pleasant evening though it did get a bit warm inside.Friendly staff.Interesting dessert shared plate - a bit of 4 desserts. Was just enough - no food envy!Thank you for the review and for choosing to dine with us on Valentine's Day, the most romantic of days! Glad there was no food envy, that can be the worst. We look forward to welcoming you back again and having you enjoy our day-to-day menu also.

I'd never been to Caffe Centrale before but I'm glad we did. We chose it for convenience and because of a friend's recommendation. Three of us each chose a different pasta (arrabiata, carbonaro and penne tonne) and they were all great and substantial. The bruschetta starter was excellent, as was the seasonal salad. It was all complemented by a good bottle of montepulciano. Service was swift and friendly.
