this gem is definitely a must visit while in Glasgow. As soon as you go down the steps you enter a little bit of Italian heaven. The service is amazing, everybody is very helpful and friendly, with the Italian charm. The wine list is amazing and very big, something for everybody. And the food is the best thing, absolutely amazing, with big portions even for fish/meat dishes. Will definitely go again as soon as I am back.

Good value quality food nicely served. Fresh bread on the table and reasonably priced house wine. Its located in a basement, not the most stylish of places but then its not intended to be. Service is good, the front of house Lady works impressively hard. I hope the establshment is doing well. I'd certainly go again.

La Lanterna West End

Our West End establishment opened in 2017, brining La Lanterna's Italian food to Glasgow's West End. We have great passion for what we do, and take pride in our classic food & first-class service.

Dinner on Saturday night was the biggest anti-climax ever having looked forward to it all week.Unfortunately it was me who picked this restaurant for our Saturday night dinner, something I’ll probably never be allowed to live down now.My partner and I arrived, both male - but not like that should matter in this day and age - made ourselves known as we weren't greeted, to then be looked at with confusion as if we shouldn't have been there. Seated and left to our own devices (for a good while), without anyone to take an order for drinks and in the meantime whilst we waited patiently, 3 other tables all of whom arrived after we did, were seated and served with drinks on their tables too. Not a good start to the evening and certainly not giving that good first impression which we were expecting (shop front appears to be a perfect facade - masking what's really hiding inside). Finally someone came to serve us, asking what we would like to eat; reminding them we would like a drink first however yes we have waited so long we now know what we are ordering to eat too. Probably best to order whilst we have the opportunity because who knows if they would've came back? Furthermore, with impatience profoundly growing on us, we weren’t prepared to wait any longer…Starters arrived, nothing spectacular, still no drinks on the table. Starters finished and still no drinks to be seen - adding to the disappointment, and thirst.Eventually our first drink arrived followed by the main course. Very bland and lacking flavour, could honestly pick up a better pasta dish in ready meal form at the local supermarket.Didn't finish the meal, with no one approaching us during the course asking how the food was. Although, once the forks were put down and napkins strewn over the plates, I think the member of staff who took our dishes away could see the look of dismay on our faces after what had been - lightly put - a terrible experience. Offered a free cocktail each, I assume because of how blatantly obvious it was that we had been neglected throughout the meal? We were keen to leave however "no its fine" said several times over, wasn't convincing enough or accepted as an answer and we were egged on to stay for that one last drink. Still payed the full price for the bill though with the amount emphasising how not worth it the meal really was. Seriously grudged it and felt cheated, with Glasgow having an abundance of beautiful Italian eateries that actually are worth the money. Named Scotland's best Italian restaurant 2016? It is clear to see why that award hasn't been upheld to date. Seems like this restaurant is more style than substance?Ultimately I won't be back and certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone, maybe would to my worst enemy though. Thanks :)We're incredibly concerned and saddened to read your review and learn just how disappointed you were during your visit. We truly pride ourselves on giving our guests the most authentic, comfortable and enjoyable Italian experience here in the West End, so we couldn't be more disheartened that we let you down so drastically on this occasion. We're incredibly sorry for the continued delays in service you experienced during your meal - this is absolutely not reflective of our service so we'll be investigating this fully with the staff working that night to identify why this could have happened and why so many things slipped through the net. You absolutely shouldn't have had to chase up on drinks or remind our staff of anything, and for this we apologise. When you informed us that you did not enjoy your meals, we did try to address this with you both on the evening with the offer of the complimentary drinks, which at the time seemed to be received positively, so we're further sorry that we picked this up completely incorrectly. No other issues were mentioned to us at this time, so we are disappointed to now learn that this wasn't the case, as we would have appreciated the chance to be able to address this while you were still at the restaurant. We realise that the whole experience has left a very bad taste in your mouths, but we do hope we can stress that this is not indicative of the true La Lanterna experience you should have had. After winning our first award in 2017 (Best Newcomer), just after opening we've been lucky enough to be nominated once again for other awards in 2018, and this year have been nominated for Best Restaurant and Best Pasta at the upcoming Italian Awards, which we feel truly reflects out high standards. Please do not hesitate to email us on [email protected] if there's any further feedback you'd like to provide, we'd be very appreciative of it.Thank you once again for sharing, and sincere apologies for your unsatisfactory visit.Best wishes,La Lanterna

My husband and I travelled from Ayr (around 45 minutes) to this restaurant after reading so many 5 star reviews on here. Being 38 weeks pregnant and finding most menus don’t cater for pregnant ladies I was happy when I saw the menu online and so we booked for our wedding anniversary meal.On arrival we were slightly disheartened by the appearance of the building itself, lacked ‘pavement appeal’ with stubbed our cigarettes and litter at the entrance as well as an abundance of flies as you walked in the front door- however, we continued into the building hopeful we would be surprised. The smell of stale smoke and beer was not great as the pub joining the restaurant which was crowded with loud drunk men caught our attention. As we made our way into the restaurant area on the left hand side which was dull and uninviting we were directed to the furthest away table - directly below a speaker which was playing very loud dance music. The seats and tables were dirty with crumbs and sticky marks. The menu was presented to us and appeared shabby and much less inviting than what we had seen online - the same content only on a sheet of A4 paper. We were directed to some specials which were scribbled on a whiteboard with a marker pen on the other side of the restaurant. As this was a special occasion we decided against eating in this establishment- we paid for our drinks and left. I would like to think we would have been pleasantly surprised by the food if we had decided to stay- however I dread to think about the presentation of the kitchen when I consider the restaurant itself. Very disappointing considering the ‘glowing’ reviews which worryingly do not match our experience in the slightest.Dear Emma HI am very surprised and disappointed firstly that trip advisor allowed this review considering that you did not even dine or allow our service team to give you a great experience. Yes our little restaurant may not be The Ritz however as you have seen by our TA ranking the other 125 5 star reviews cannot be wrong. They also by the way had the common courtesy of at least trying a dish. Giving a small suburban establishment a 1 star review without giving them a chance is disgraceful. The pub next door is what you would expect from a pub on a Saturday night meaning Emma people are enjoying themselves. I also see many other establishments all over the globe are getting the 1 star treatment in your reviews. I really don’t think much would please you Emma and I would put on record for other restaurants to be aware of TA reviews you post in the future. My chefs and service staff did not deserve this.Regards Derek

Booked Qua for a Girls Day Out on a Friday afternoon and just had a fabulous day. We were seated at the best table at the window which was a great start and the day just got better and better. Food was spot on but was only a part of a great day where the waiters spoiled us and ensured we had a great day out. We were having such a good time that we stayed till early evening and had to move tables as the window seat was booked however we were given free drinks on the house because of our inconvenience - which really wasn't inconvenient at all. All in all a great experience.

Really nice place, quite cool looking inside and the pizza oven area adds atmosphere. Staff were all nice and efficient. Large menu with plenty of options appealing to everyone (lots of gluten free and vegan options too). Desserts menu was also nice. We were the last group in the place on a sunday night for dinner but the staff weren't pushing us to leave and seemed happy to let us sit and chat to each other. Definitely would return.

I visited today and wanted to come on straight away and write a review. Fab from start to finish, staff were very attentive, helpful and always smiling. The food was really fresh, you can tell the pasta is homemade and staff were happy to accommodate any changes to things. Nothing was too much trouble to any of them. The king prawns were amazing and definetly worth a try if you like seafood! My son loved his spaghetti! I’ll be back definitely and I’ve already said to friends and family. Coffee at the end was fab too. Best Italians in Glasgow. Thanks again, Carla & Luca
