Find out what Italian restaurants to try in Freeport. Local legend claims that Freeport was the birthplace of Maine, the decision to separate from Massachusetts having been made in a local tavern way back in 1789. Whether this is truth or folklore, Freeport has much more to offer, including South Freeport, a historic harbourfront village offering up a fresh catch every day. Nearby Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and the Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary provide nature trails with scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean over the rocky shores of Maine.

We went to Petrilloâs last week while we were in Freeport. Sometimes Iâm hesitant in ordering Italian food out. I cook Italian often, and so I compare my food to the restaurants ( especially meatballs and lasagna) and I can be very hard on the restaurant. I am often disappointed. This particular evening I was hesitant and told my husband to just stick with pizza. We decided on a buffalo chicken pie. Great crust, lots of chicken, spicy enough and piping hot...the way we like it. It was pretty good. The waitress was nice and the pie came to the table pretty quick. As we were waiting, other customers were getting their meals and everything looked and smelled great. I was sorry I played it safe. Next visit I wonât,Help Kbeens Thank you for reviewing us. We are so happy you enjoyed your meal!Hope to see you soonDom

We were recommended this restaurant by the hotel and I am sure this is not a bad place but having had some fantastic meals in Maine, this was not near the top of the list. We are at lunchtime and were able to be seated quickly, outside on a lovely day. Service was quick and attentive but the food was only ok. I was quite disappointed with my calamari. Really chewy, have had far better, I think it was just a bad choice as my husbands food was better. The position of the restaurant was good, on the edge of the outlet shopping on Maine Street,

Family owned, home cooking. A diverse menu of sandwiches, salads, pasta, pizza, etc. I had the gyros sandwich, my companions had souvlaki, a Greek Salad and a meatball sandwich. All were delicious and portions are large. Prices are good and service is quick and friendly. This is a great option in Freeport, although away from downtown it offers more reasonable prices and a parking lot. Definitely worth a visit.

Because it was convenient and on the outskirts of town we thought it would make sense to stop there instead of dealing with the crowds in the middle of town. What a disappointment! My husband's Italian coldcut sandwich was not tasty although the price was right, approx $7.50. My salad was like someone dumped a bag of iceberg lettuce and unripe tomatoes, half of a green pepper and a few carrot slices. I ordered grilled chicken which came as a few cut up pieces. Standard dressing in a little pouch. No taste whatsover! Not worth it.
