We took a different route from Reggio Emilia to Pontremoli on a beautiful fall day. We were starving and pulled over to try Trattoria da Berto. We were 2 foreigners amongst all Italians on a Sunday afternoon. We were welcomed, kindly, and treated well. The server was excellent. She split our pastas for us so we could each have a little of the delicious dishes. A man ( the owner?) came over and asked us where we were from ( in Italian, my friend speaks Italian) ...We said USA and Belgium. He was so welcoming to us. He put two bottles of local liqueur down on our table with shot glasses. The food was excellent , the service was great and the welcome was warm....Go across the Passo del Cirone and stop and have a meal here ! You won't be disappointed.

I go out willingly from the Cisa highway and both I go and return I can go from Berceto to lunch / dinner time. A pleasant detour. Excellent wine cellar and good and well presented food. Too bad that I have to drive - SAFETY FIRS - it must be self-limited ...

We were looking for a salad - sometimes when you are moving from small town to small town, vegetables are hard to come by. We stumbled on da Romana, attracted by a group of a dozen locals standing outside, enjoying a drink and a sing. We were welcomed to a table and had a delicious mixed salad, to the accompaniment of these singers.

A nice and warm athmosphere is the fundamental background of this little place where you can eat and also (if you're not too many) sleep, since they also have some rooms. It is a family held place, and you may feel it right from the start, as soon as you show-up and say hallo. Prices are low but not cheap, provided that we're in Berceto and not in London nor Paris or Milano. However, the overall food quality is good.

It is a travesty that the reviews here aren't better. This was a foodgasm. The food and wine were amazing! Made with care and delivered with hood humor, the dished at our table were steak with truffles, pasta with mushrooms, rabbit with mushrooms, two funghi appetizers, red wine, and a cream and caramel dessert. All fabulous.

Know that while this place is probably impossible to reach without a car, and is FAR off the beaten path (30-40 mins off the Autostrada), it is well worth the effort. They have a unique way of cooking their pizzas that incorporates a cast iron "bell" that is heated over a fire, and then lowered over the pizza to cook it. Quite fascinating to watch (they will let you check it out if they're not too busy).Hours vary, so confirm before you head their direction. Corchia is a WONDERFUL village to walk through, and offers some wonderful photo-treasures.

We decided to take the secondary road, rather than the motorway from Parma down to la Spezia. Beautiful winding drive through wonderful wooded mountains with beautiful scenery and pretty small villages. The drive alone was worth it but the lunchtime stop at Trattoria Ca dal Brass made it an utterly magical day. Nestled near the top of the range, the ambience, fine food, great wine and excellent, friendly service of this excellent place combined to present something that simply canât be artificially created. This was the most idyllic lunch stop imaginable. Antipasto of tender, fresh Parma prosciutto and superb Parmesan cheese, with crusty fresh bread and followed by an exceptional Bistecca with salad and marvellously crisp potato chips seasoned with rosemary was accompanied an excellent red wine. Our daughter had a delicious ravioli with a meat ragu. Coffee to finish and then after a surprisingly and exceptionally reasonable bill, we were back on the road, pinching ourselves to confirm it had all been real. Trattoria Ca dal Brass is, simply, a genuinely outstanding example of the sort of Trattoria one imagines, but seldom actually gets to enjoy - completely worth going out of your way to experience.

Amazing restaurant featuring the famous porcini mushrooms that abound in that area. Just allow the waiter to order you up several courses. Imaginative uses and delicious. Probably the best restaurant in that neck of the woods. They will sell you mushrooms and will shrink wrap them for USA entry .
