We had good pasta at reasonable price at this semi self-service small restaurant. The pasta was good with the abilty to choose your own spices and sauce.Good value for money.

Approaching Amores from the back of the building in what is a fairly sketchy neighbourhood (vacant lots, feral cats, a lot of sand blowing, buildings in that mid-point between construction and demolition), it's immediately apparent that access to the restaurant on the second floor is best accomplished by the elevator as the stairs are very poorly lit. Exiting the elevator, the restaurant is at first impression quite stunning. There is a nice vestibule, and a lovely little bar to the right showcasing the desserts which looked fantastic. We were shown to a private table, and the design of the restaurant is really striking, all curved walls and gives a good illusion of privacy, even to having a service bell on the wall if you wish attention. The servers all wait at the curve of the wall for permission to enter before they do. The menus are presented in leather folders, the effect of which is somewhat spoiled by having the pages defaced by crayons - this is a family restaurant, as the children squabbling invisibly in the next booth proved. There was a lovely inscription at the front of the menu, a picture of which I've uploaded, telling us the food might be a while, but was worth the wait. We ordered two salads and decided to split a cannelloni. The salads presentation was phenomenal, and they tasted good, but not excellent. The cannelloni was served as we were half way through our salads, which, given the inscription in the menu, was a bit disappointing. The cannelloni was bland, and the presentation pretty indifferent. We had to search out the waiter for our drinks after the cannelloni was served. Final thoughts? Amores is good, but could be great. Candles, some nice soft music piped in to drown out the sound of kids around you and enhance the illusion of privacy.... for Italian in Saudi, it's about as good as it gets. The mains ranged in price from 50-90 for steaks, the salads were around 30, and if you wanted a "cocktail" it would set you back another 30 each. Note - if anyone from Amore's reads this: The last line of the text in the menu should be "Is it not worthwhile to wait a little longer?" In the case of our cannelloni, yes, it would have been.
The pizza has lots of cheese and meat. The best pizzas are steak & cheese and Original Ranchy. You'll be glad you tried the pizza.
