Decided to visit this Hotel for lunch.Staff were very nice.Lovely big premises inside.Ladies toilets very clean.Again like another premises in Cong, couldn't believe the amount of wasps inside this premises. At one point we counted 17 wasps on the inside of one of the windows. We had a drink, and would have loved to stayed, and relaxed and had lunch, but we were very nervous of the amount of wasps. An average rating only because of the wasps.

To set the context, we should remember that Cong is a village known for two things - Ashford Castle and the setting of the movie “The Quiet Man”. On the latter, the vast majority of its business has grown over the last 80 years to cater to tourists - mostly US based - who seem to believe there’s something quaint about the fakery of leprechauns & stereotypical Irishness that exists only in bad Hollywood renderings. In light of this, part of me things you’d have to forgive Crowe’s - a little at least. But there can be no forgiveness for a filthy premises, poor customer service and horribly sub-par food. We visited over what was a not busy lunchtime. Despite having to ask for menus twice, we then had to wait for our order to be taken (in an almost empty restaurant with plenty of staff who were more interested in chatting to each other than anything else) and then zero customer service. We ordered two seafood chowders. One had to be sent back because it was stone cold only to be returned clearly having been microwaved rather than a fresh (hot) portion served. The waiter showed no interest in rectifying matters - sending it back had taken himAway from chatting with his colleagues. Both chowders were claggy (cheap thickener / cornflour rather than the traditional recipe of double cream) and both lacked any quantity of seafood or shellfish. The brown bread they were served with was stale. I had a pint of Guinness and it was also off. The restaurant is to be avoided. I can only conclude that a captive audience of tourist buses keeps this place open.Good afternoon Caz_Collins. Apologizes that you felt you had such a bad experience. We work hard as do all our staff on a daily basis to look after everybody that comes through our doors. Please do not insult our American tourists or any other tourists - they come to Cong to enjoy themselves and have a good time. We wish you all the best

We're Americans - from South Carolina. We were there for lunch on 3/5/19, and Michelle and Neev Cniamh were our servers. The three of us had a sampling from the menu, and the food was delicious. The service was better than expected. We commented on the art on the walls, and our server brought us a book about it - said the owner is a lover of art. We could see that also in the bathrooms (you call them "toilets"). We liked the decor (and hand soap) in there too. Very nice experience overall. "Nice job" to everyone - but nobody more than to our exceptional servers!

We visited last year and enjoyed the food so decided to return. Once again the food was lovely, apart from the pear & almond tart which was really dry but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I got the impression last time that staff really weren't bothered being nice to customers and it was cemented this time. We came away feeling as if by just ordering & eating food we were inconveniencing them! Would return for the food but the reception could be better.

Apparently King George V of the then United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland dined here and the republican and independent Irish still like to commemorate that occurrence which is nice in these days of Brexit tensions. Besides the French named an hotel in Paris after the man.The Dining Room is appropriately decorated in grand style and until recently evening male diners had to wear jackets and ties but ties are now no longer compulsory. So, it is that sort of place and I guess it encourages one to feel a bit of Downton Abbey has crossed the Irish Sea. Waiters in tails and silver cloches ceremoniously raised en masse from the dishes presented to the suitably attired and awed diners. It was fun but the food was not exactly exceptional though passable. Fine dining in terms of the venue and the service but a little underwhelming otherwise.Dear Kirkcaldylad,We greatly appreciate your feedback on your experience in our George V Dining room. We will certainly sit down and examine your comments with our Team. We are vegetarians and not about to comment on the other menu items. It had nice decor and the ambience was just right. It was so crowded during the lunchtime which was proof its quality of food and the service provided. The prices were very reasonable. Going on reviews, we (two couples) booked in for dinner last night.Have to say that we weren't over-impressed. The atmosphere is great, and the staff very friendly. Our young waitress was particularly good. The food - sirloin steak, fish and chips, and salmon (2) was ok. It was let down by dry, powdery-tasting chips, and by being rather over-priced - not least the ice cream at 6.95 euros.A bit disappointing really.
