Things to do in Ashbourne
Stopped for lunch when passing through Ashbourne recently and met the manager Micheal Monaghan who greeted us with a warm and friendly handshake. Staff were pleasant and efficient and lunch was tasty and great value. Good sized crowd but not noisy and sussoundings were bright and modern. Hotel has been refurbished and is popular @ Micheal. Will certainly be back when next in Ashbourne. Busy shopping town.
Visited here twice recently for breakfast. Great option from the healthy(smashed avacado on toast, porridge etc) to not so healthy(full Irish - yummy by the way) and I have to say the staff layout, food etc is excellent. Was quiet enough the two times we went but will definitely be locked out sooner rather than later. Definitely the best option around for breakfast

Went for lunch today and I have to say after being numerous times, it was so disappointing. I ordered a open sandwich that said sun-dried tomatoe along with other toppings. What came was pesto and lashings of it underneath the chicken, on top of it. I took one bite and pushed it aside as very overpowering. What annoyed me the most was, not one member of staff came over to see was everything ok which they do every other time I am there. They walked by numerous times and ignored the fact I had left a full sandwich there. When my friend went to pay, they again didn't ask was everything ok and by the time I got to the till with my pram, she had put through the payment as quick as possible. When I mentioned it to her she said how it said sun dried tomato but not pesto as I pointed out and her reply was Oh you should of said I would of changed it. There was 4 other tables in the place so not busy yet the staff went out of their way to not come to my table.

Visited the Donkey Shed recently for breakfast. First impression was not good. We waited at the door beside the sign...wait here to be seated. Well we waited, waited, waited and waited and it was quite a while before anyone attended to us. Eventually we were asked how many and are we for breakfast or lunch. Waiter advise us to hold for a minute and he would sort a table. Again we waited and waited and though we had lost the waiter but eventually he returned to advise that he was about to make ready a table and would be back. This was despite the fact that numerous tables were unoccupied. He appeared again and said our table was ready and grabbed 4 menus and said follow me. He arrived at the table and threw the four menus on the table and that was our introduction to the table and off he went. We then waited and waited for another staff member to take our order. Then we waited and waited for someone to present our meal to the extent that we were getting quite impatient. Eventually food was presented which was nothing special with tasteless bacon. Meal finished our table was being emptied and we asked for the bill which we were advised would be presented by return. Here we go again....we waited and waited and nobody reappeared. Eventually we went to the cash desk and settled our bill and left. There was no shortage of staff and no reason for such delays except one would wonder if they were sufficiently trained in how to welcome and attend to customers. I have been to this location a few times before and while never been completely satisfied with it this recent visit left me cold and I doubt I will revisit. I certainly would not be recommending this type of service to anyone.

With old world character and charm combined with a modern and relaxed ambiance, we take pride in offering our patrons a relaxed and delicious dining experience which The Snailbox is renowned for. Having won the "Best Welcome & Customer Service Award" in 2
The Snailbox is pretty much the only place in the area without driving closer to Drogheda or Dublin. Large establishment with a pub side and restaurant area. Food is decent but nothing great. Had the stir fry which was too sweet and not spicy enough. Created some work for the waiter when I asked for hot sauce (not sweet spicy Thai sauce, which it was already doused in). Also had the seafood chowder, reported to be full of seafood and not just fish, and a tasty if somewhat thin cream broth. This was served with a slab of bread. It does get busy on a weekend night, so book ahead if your plans include a visit.
