We love food halls in big Asian cities but Urbana IL ain't neither Bangkok, KL nor Singapore. Many issues distract from an otherwise promising concept: Poor, unappealing lighting, bad (or turned down?) kitchen exhaust (Your clothes will smell, for sure), uncomfortable seating, mediocre food (Diner-level, Diner-priced: Frozen fries, frozen patties, Mexican choices poor and overcooked. One stall was closed) We visited on a Friday night and they ran out of beer? What? Come on, get serious! Come 2019 they will be OOB. Sorry.

The Red Herring has awesome vegan and vegetarian options - the portions are great and everything I've eaten tastes good and makes me feel good. Affordable prices for a quick lunch on campus. It feels very cozy inside as well - good for studying!

Kelly and her staff offer great pastries, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, and specials Monday through Friday. There is also a salad bar at Piato Too. The cookies and desserts are tasty and tempting. The cinnamon rolls are terrific. The business is in Urbana, not Champaign, and always has been. Being vegetarian, I just wish there were vegetarian soups and specials on a daily basis. A very nice place for breakfast or lunch.

We attempted to visit Black Dog (Downtown) but was not willing to wait 90 minutes for a table (granted it was a Saturday night). We walked instead to Pizzeria Antica.Their website indicates they were founded in 2015. It shows. Our hostess was new - who then was our server, then not. It's a funky payment process - as you pay for your meal at the hostess stand. We started with a shared Italiano (large) salad ($10). Then the pizza came - Melanzana - described as Fresh Mozzarella, Roasted Eggplant, Sun Kissed Tomato, Chevre ($16).Both items were very tasty.Last - we had the gelato - very reasonable @ $3 for about a 4 oz. portion.Overall - a pleasant experience - but on the pricey side.
