My expectation was high considering what I had heard about this place from various local people. When I ordered a hamburger steak with garlic sauce, it not only smelled great but also looked delicious. Imagine my surprise when I cut it after waiting for a few minutes to sizzle and supposedly cook inside; center portion of the hamburger steak was bright pink and even though I pressed it onto the ion plate, it didn't cook through. Small size as well. Water was not refilled.

It was a week day, after 1 p.m., so Akagitei wasn't so crowded. They have a carpark just out front. The restaurant is spacious with a second floor. It's quite old (open since the 1920's) - retro style if you like and clean. The BGM was jazzy and relaxing. They seem to be very proud of the fact that they've been featured on TV - there re pictures everywhere mentioning the fact. The lunch menu was only in Japanese (I don't know if they have an English one.), with a few pictures. The most popular dish seems to be the Tamanegi Marine Katsu = Pork Cutlet topped with onions (1609 yen for the course). This is also what they recommended trying. It was great ... thick and juicy, cooked just right. The course which consisted of 5 parts as well as a drink, was excellent value, as it was very filling. The beef stew (1944 yen for the course) was average, a little too sweet for my tastes. They spaced the food out well, so you didn't get everything at once. It is definitely a reasonably good choice, if you're in the area ...
