Things to do in Shimoda
Very nice staff and excellent Japanese food ! We had dinner : cooked fish set and tempura set. Really good. We ate for less than ¥5,000 including beverages.
We got 2 iced coffees and a peach shaved ice after exploring the paths and lookouts. Both were tasty and well-priced (1200 for everything).

Cozy Cafe on the grounds of Retreat wabi-sabi. The are large ratan lounge chairs and hammocks on the large deck. Most popular for brunch and other light meals. Dinner and late night drinks available in summer. Mostly vegetarian meals with a focus on local
Amazingly zen fusion ambience. Totally original - and delicious - vegan menu (even for voracious carnivores like me). Step onto the dining deck and feel yourself being transported to a different dimension. Rest in the hammocks at your own risk - you very likely might fall into a deep slumber and miss lunch!
Where to eat Cafe food in Shimoda: The Best Restaurants and Bars

We ate breakfast three days while staying in nearby Shirahama. Jonathan's is along the main road fronting the harbour and is near some interesting Jurassic Park-like abandoned hotels, but the property itself is great. Staff are very welcoming and for people like us who do not speak Japanese, it's very easy to order and service is cheerful and excellent. We were feeling like having pancakes, French Toast and things like that, while one of our party had the delicious steamed spinach with egg every morning. Top marks, and low cost.

On our last stay we ended up eating at this restaurant once a day. The food is really good and the price attached to it as well. Tempura is a bit oily. I've eaten better ones, but overall is a good place. Ramen is good. It smells of wet wood, classic smell of Japanese old houses. The architecture inside is interesting and different. Last time we ate there the staff gave us a present on our way out. They were happy we went there so many times. We will definately go back there. It's a nice place, you can stay as much as you wish, not the classic eat-and-run Japanese restaurant, and everyone is friendly.
