Things to do in Mbarara
I ate at the Café Ark many times during a two-week stay in Mbarara. Its particularly convenient for the academic staff and health professionals that visit the nearby University and Hospital. The café seems to be very popular amongst Ugandans and non-Ugandans. It was fine to just have a coffee or to have a big meal. Like all coffee shops there are big settees and comfy chairs in the main area, along with a bar and an area of conventional tables and chairs. For many people the ark café is a great meeting place but lots of travellers were probably there because of the Wi-Fi, like me! The WI-FI uses the Roku service and a 24 hour voucher costs 1000 UGX (21p) and their are other hotspots for Roku in Mbarara. The staff from Ark café are very friendly and helpful. The food is average and mostly based on western menus - no matooke! Its a safe, clean and friendly café that has borrowed some lighting and music ideas from the nightclub on the 2nd floor. Prices are reasonable and the menu is varied.
