Mazunte is a small beach town on the Pacific coast in Oaxaca, Mexico (15°39′53″N 96°33′14″W / 15.66485°N 96.55388°W / 15.66485; -96.55388). It is located 22 km southwest of San Pedro Pochutla on coastal Highway 200. Mazunte is located some 10 km to the west of Puerto Angel and just about 1 km from San Agustinillo and 264 km south of the capital of Oaxaca. There are two etymologies for the name. Some sources state that “Mazunte” is derived from a Nahuatl phrase, “maxotetia” which means “please deposit eggs here.” However, older residents of the community state that it is from the word “mizontle,” used by locals to refer to a crab species that used to be very abundant in the area.

Just a brilliant unknown place!! It is a rustic setting, the staff are so friendly and really genuine. They will spend the time to chat and enjoy the night! Drink menu is great, cheap beers and the cocktails are really well done. They also have wine options that are delicious and the cheapest we found. As for the food, we went there twice and it got better and better. The menu changes each day so drop in and check, but they seem to always have an option for pork, fish(generally tuna) and beef plus a variety of starters which are vegetarian too. Just an amazing place to spend the night!They are only open for dinner and close a couple days a week so chat to them and donât miss it.

If you want to jet ski, parasail, watch television, get splashed on by kids in the pool....go someplace else. If you want to relax, enjoy breathtaking views, fall asleep in a hammock, lay on the beach, decompress, be somewhere where nobody can find you...this is the place.We had cabana #1, with beautiful views, that made us never want to leave. The staff and chef are beyond compare. Marcos, the manager, makes sure that your every need is taken care of, the 2 chefs are available to make anything you desire, and prepare special fresh fish dishes that are unbelievable. The little sleepy town of Mazunte, and a large local beach is just down the driveway, and a block away. It is fun to walk the little town, talk to the friendly local people and just chill out. This is a remote paradise, with 5+ star facilities and service.

Made a reservation the day before for dinner. A necessity!!Friendly staff , menu clearly explained in English. Good choices of fish and meat. We had the mahi mahi and it was excellent. Portions were good.Casual relaxed atmosphere. No cocktails but wine and beer readily available.

We ended up having lunch here by accident (nice surf spot in front). Great cebiche, good chicken soup, outstanding tuna tostadas. We had canilla ice cream and crepes for dessert and loved them.Service is good and courteous, but slow (in synch with the site relax vive)

Nice little French Restaurante in Mazunte. Food was really good, reasonable prices. Services really good, limited variety of drinks and wines. A place to have a dinner when you visit Mazunte.

Octopus resembled rubber, fries were greasy and anemic, mango margueritas were tasty but missing Tequila. Seaside location and service were redeeming features, though not enough to bring us back.

Even though we stayed in Mazunte over 3 months, we discovered this restaurant close the end of our stay. We shared a delicious Pizza. 1 pizza for 2 persons was more than enough. It's wood oven cooked and really good. Service was friendly and Rafa the owner came by to say hi and see that we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is decorated with many flags from different countries where Rafa traveled to Surf. He is a Surf maniac. In the corner a TV plays Surf videos. Very good experience overall! We recommand this restaurant.Thanks alot for your visit to La Empanada , for us is very nice to hear that you had a good time with us and that you enjoyed what the Pacific ocean can offer , waves, sunsets, good friends Hope to see you back soon in mermejita beach .Cheers
