My wife and I recently had dinner at this restaurant and very much enjoyed the food. I would have easily given this place 5 stars if the service was better. In fact, it was really not good at all. Mistakes by the server and long waits detracted from the quality of what was being served. That said, I would certainly give them another go to see if this is an ongoing issue. We started with a delicious scallop dish and then shared an excellent veal dish. We opted out of desert for fear it would take too long to get it to us.

We wanted to find a restaurant that provide authentic Norwegian Cuisine I am so glad we found this absolutely diamond. The restaurant is located about ten minutes from the centre of Kongsberg. As a party of 10 people we asked the restaurant to provide a typical Norwegian meal and they did not disappoint. On arrival we were greeted by a very nice Waitress, very friendly, knowledgable and she provided an impeccable service. We were served an aperitif of local Aquavit, as we were shown to our seats, housed in the back room near the open kitchen which tortured us with tantalising aromas of our meal. Our first course was cream of lobster soup perfectly matched with French White Wine suggested by our waitress. I am not a a keen shellfish person and so I was a little wary of what the soup would be like but all my worries were immediately alleviated and I was left wanting more. The main course was a trio of Norwegian Game grills, consisting of Reindeer, Vension and Moose steaks served with a mushroom sauce, potatoes and broccoli. The meal again perfectly matched with a Spainsh Red Wine. Last but certainly not least our desert of Creme brûlée was the final course which was absolutely stunning. To allow the food to be digested we finished our evening with Cognac and coffee which with the great ambience of the room was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Unfortuately I am unable to comment on the cost as the meal was paid by a local company but I am sure it was well worth the price.
While staying in Kongsberg, we always stay at the Gyldenlov. One of the reasons is the great food. Their breakfast every morning has a wide selection of foods to try. I usually have the eggs and put some brown cheese on top, some salmon and mustard, plus a fruit selection and bread. For dinner you can't beat their beef steak Gyldenlove. A nice selection of beef, with a baked potato, they make a very delicious gravy with olives in it, a little bowl of shrimp, and a fresh vegetable medley. They also have reindeer and red deer steaks. My girlfriend loves their lasagna and usually gets that.Dear Dennis,Thank you so much for your review! It is always nice to read reviews for they are so positive and that you love to stay with us, and really love our restaurant and our selection of food.We love to see you back in Kongsberg and the Gyldenløve Hotell!
