Tea at the famed Meikles Hotel was a huge disappointment. An entirely "blah" experience open to the lobby. No decorum. Pricey for value.

We were a large group with a late booking. What a find. We were placed outside as we wanted to be noisy, the setting was lovely. Most of us took the 3 course choice, which was delicious. Service quick & efficient. Food excellent & timely.Would highly recommend.

Paid a visit on Boxing Day 17, the restaurant was running a skeleton staff, but the head waiter assured us that the menu was available as usual. The service was swift and the food delicious. The hotel grounds were pretty empty so we could relax after a lovely meal in its lovely garden.

The grounds are very lovely fountains with fish. Their cocktails were good. The service was not so great we felt ignored and they were focusing on their regular clientele. My husband had taken me there for our 10th wedding anniversary. They forgot his starter it only came when I got my main meal and we had to remind them. For their pricing that is steep I was expectant in terms of service and flavors in their meals. For example their butternut soup was quite bland to say the least. I was disappointed. I enjoyed sitting by their fireplace though.

Fishmonger Restaurant (located at 50 East Road, Avondale & under new management in 2012) offers freshly-sourced Portuguese-styled seafood dishes & platters; a variety of crisp salads; local & imported wines & meat/ poultry options for the non-fish eater.
We had great expectations of this restaurant and selected it for a family lunch to celebrate two birthdays. Sadly it was decidedly underwhelming; service pleasant but no more than that and the food was very average. The calamares to start were cold and rubbery and main courses were poorly presented and just âlackingâ overall. We all agreed (6 of us) that it was very expensive for the standard and would not be recommending it or rushing back. It needs TLC on presentation and making the lunch experience memorable.
