Gisteren super lekker gegeten bij By Tater.

Good food on a Monday night. Monday night appears to be Closing night, as most businesses in the area were not open for business. The food was a bit pricey and the interior stylish but sterile.

On the occasion of mum's birthday, we went to this well-known local for a good quality dinner. Most of us ate carpaccio with breast of duck as starter, rabbit leg with small portions of vegetables and potatoes as main and ice cream with chocolate sauce as dessert. It was quite a delicious meal in a nice and cozy, Dutch atmosphere, which I would certainly recommend for a small and intimate occasion with family and friends!

The restaurant makes no claims to being a Michelin starred restaurant, but the steak I had was excellent and the recommended wine (a Primitivo) superb. Service was quick and friendly. The salad was tasty, just the fries a little underdone, but for about â¬25 all in with coffee I was more than satisfied!

We had a wonderful dinner and were offered gluten free options! It was a choice and pick menu which was obtained by my friend who had a special gift voucher. I had a salad with goats cheese as a starter, fish and vegetables for main course which was excellent. Also had desert. Since there might be gluten inside the ice cream i could choose a fruit bowl. Very nice, because mostly i have to skip desert. The restaurant is very cosy, service is good, although we had to wait for a fair bit before we received our food. The waitress explained that a large group of people had just ordered before us, and she apologised for that, but it was not her fault. We told her that. We liked the restaurant. Choice enough for everyone.

We entered and were greeted with a waitress, who once she knew we couldn't speak Dutch was fluent in English, bringing us English menus. The set menu looked good, however, due to our ages, we took the 2 course option, main and desert, which everyone agreed was better than normal "pub grub", filling and tasty. It was lovely and cool inside, whereas outside was uncomfortably hot. None of us could find fault, waitresses were very attentive in a very busy restaurant. Background music was mostly English, soft rock. A great night, 6x 2 courses and a few beers etc, 155euro.

The décor is well thought out and the menu is inspired. As you transition from course to course you'll be pleasantly surprised at each turn. Each dish has traditional undertones but are lifted by modern techniques and locally sourced ingredients. If I had to choose, the highlights for me were the Singaporean black pepper lobster (traditionally crab) and Hong Kong scallops on the half shell, though the meal as a whole was faultless. The sommelier/hostess will really seal the deal if you're looking for an outstanding dining experience, her choice of wine pairings were perfect and her non intrusive attentiveness is unrivalled. It's worth travelling for, I guarantee it.
