On one of the most beautiful locations of Madeira, the port of Calheta, our Restaurant New era is located. The cozy covered terrace offers an attractive view over the port. It is a pleasant meeting place with a relaxing atmosphere. Wether you want to take
This restaurant was the only one, outside of the hotels, trading in Calheta owing to the stabilization of the cliff faces directly above the marina, whilst we were staying at the resort in mid-October. It offered a good range of seafood dishes, including the celebrated black scabbard fish, caught in local waters, served with banana, another local delicacy. It also as served a super version of the local bread with garlic, Bolo do Caco, literally balls of cake. Try its devil shrimps, best washed down with its cool beer.Great for sunsets, too.

Situated in an elevated position at the end of the beach, the restaurant has an unbeatable view on the beach and the village (especially from the small terrace). Menu is typical Maderian. Our fish (parrot) and squids were good. Service was efficient but not smily. Prices were reasonable for the fish of the day and slightly above average otherwise. Overall a good choice.

Jungle Rain Restaurant is the only one on the island, which tries to resemble the most hidden jungle on the planet. The restaurant is unique in Europe, as its decoration and theme environment simulate a tropical forest. The ârobotâ animals, the trees and
We were taken to this restaurant as part of a day out walking the levada's - so we were a little sceptical as to what it might be like. The menu is good - the local foods are fabulous! We had the Portuguese sausages with mountain potatoes as a side - the sausages were cooked in the traditional way on a giant skewer and they were delicious! Another in our party had the steak on a stone - this looked amazing and they said it tasted fabulous! The staff were lovely - really grateful for our patronage and they were full of smiles and more than happy to help. The views and the silence from the area area astounding. Definitely don't be sceptical - and if you have hired a car, drive up the mountain; you won't be disappointed.
