This is our third visit to The Mallow this year, each other experience has been very good however our meals this visit were very average. Not sure if thereâs been a chef change recently however our four meals including steak, fish, pork were all underwhelming. Maybe itâs time to revamp the menu and lift the standard back to where it was, or risk becoming just another average pub meal.

Our beautiful Ballarat Hotel is set back from the main road, with a cosy and traditional feel, making it a wonderful part of the town's old-world charm, whilst offering all the splendour of Zagame's modern take on dining and entertainment

Seats only 12 and is open Friday & Saturday - you'll need to book well ahead, but it is worth it a-plenty.Degustation menu that can be tailored for your specific dietary needs, as was proven on the night we dined with two vegetarians among the guests. It really was a fabulous night, delicious dishes served up with matching wines (if you choose this option). With chef Derek's experience at the likes of Per Se showing through in the presentation and cooking.Thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, and highly recommended. Can't really suggest a particular dish as they'll change subject to season/what is fresh and available/ what can be foraged. But for what its worth ... the scallop & the spanner crab & the confit duck & the wagyu & the ganache & 'the coffee & donuts' were all spectacularly great! For once Ballarat has an outstanding restaurant worthy of any capital city in Australia or abroad. And its not yet another Thai!!

Went to Saturday morning breakfast, nice enough place. Our party ordered the brekky bun, breakfast panini with Turkish bread and a croissant. The breakfast panini was reported to be excellent. My croissant however instead of coming light and hot it appears to had been placed in a sandwich press flattened to the size of a wafer..... at least it was hot. Service wasn't too bad with our meals coming out fairly quickly. About the time it taken to flatten a croissant.Overall the meals were nice the service good and a nice place to dine.
