Things to do in Atenas
Some of the best Ceviche we had while visiting and very unexpected. The restaurant itself is no more than a converted trailer. Located on the park in the center of town we ended up eating here many times. The name is funny because it is no where near the
I have eaten here on several occasions. Like the cucumber on the burgers which is a nice twist. The Ceviche is a little sweet for my taste but always fresh and certainly good.
This small restaurant/cafe is new to Atenas but is a great addition. Cecilla makes what is most probably the best banana split in CR! And her lasagna, tuna fish sandwich, and egg salad sandwiches can't be beat. She is now carrying REAL brewed ice tea also (which is very hard to find here - usually you get only that bottled stuff). This new store is also a craft and art center. You can buy art/craft supplies and sign uo for a number of classes (at a very reasonable cost!)The owner, Cecilla, is also a fascinating woman - fluent in Engolish, warm, and not only does she run this business, she is also an attorney, a pilot, and has worked as a social worker - a multi-talented woman!BTW - the "First Annual Atenas Art & Craft Show" will be held here on November 16, 2013. Many local artists (both gringo and Tica) will be proudly showing their work!
Family restaurant with varied spaces for the enjoyment of our customers, with a menu for different tastes and a pleasant atmosphere.
My husband and I decided to try this new place near our home. It was fantastic! The waitress was friendly and able to converse in English or Spanish. We each ordered a different pizza and both agreed it was the best we'd had here. Iguanas Pizzaria is on our short list now! When soccer season revs up, it'll be a great place to watch the game.
I have property in Costa Rica, near Atenas. I make my way down 3 or 4 times a year. Eating at the Pepper Grill will always be at or near the top of my "List of things to do" while there.Seidy, the owner, has a knack for offering scrumptious culinary delights. When it comes to creating/preparing and presenting quality meals, Seidy is in a class by herself. Her unique menu offerings are anything but "tipico". Okay, so her Bocas (great portions at a very reasonable price) can satisfy most any appetite and many are commonly found down here. But she just does them so well! Her Unique dinner menu items include beef, pork, chicken and seafood, all done to perfection on the grill. She also grills many of the fruit and vegetable side dishes too. Hey... "Grill" actually means "GRILL"here! My favorite is the Portobello stuffed mushrooms. I've had others elsewhere, but none as good as hers.Alcohol is available, but there is no bar to sit at. This is a restaraunt, not a bar. She has a nice collection of wine, beer and hard liquor to choose from. All served at your table and all are nice additions to a fabulous meal.Try the San Louis Ribs. That's my "go to" choice. But you can not go wrong with any of the other options. Deciding what to choose is one of those "win-win" things. There just are no bad choices.Hope you find your way there and leave feeling the same way I do!
We had dinner with the family in this restaurant of the hotel Colinas del Sol. Service was friendly and we ate some local dishes served in large portions. As a appetizer we got a cream soup. The restaurant has 6-7 tables with a view on the trees in the garden. Thanks for your opinion, sorry for not answering before. Hope we will welcome you again.

El Balcon is a fun place to come sit on the porch and watch the world go by. They offer a wide range of sandwichs and many good German dishes like schnitzel and spicey sausages. Also if you have a sweet tooth they have many pasteries and ice cream offerings including chocolate iced mocha along with sundaes and many fun desserts. They make their own breads daily and are always busy. Note that they do close at 6pm.
