Find out what International restaurants to try in Alappuzha. Often compared to Venice due to its abundance of canals, Alappuzha is the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala. Rent a houseboat for an up-close view of the palm-lined waterways. In August, the snake-boat race is a remarkable festival—each traditional boat has a crew of over 100 local sailors.

We stayed at the Punnamada Resort, so we used the Choola Restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is in a great location with views out over the grassed area to the Kerala backwaters during the day and fairy lights in the trees at night. The food is generally fresh and it is an a la-carte menu. The serving portions however have been less than generous. Some of the dishes lacked flavour but there are some real gems on the menu, like the karimeen pollichattu. The deserts however are nothing like the descriptions on the menu. That's not to say that they weren't nice just don't expect them to be what you expected. The service here is very efficient and helpful - full kudos to the staff. The prices for the food and drinks are more expensive than other local restaurants but on par with other resorts.

Okay, will try to keep this fairly concise ... me and the wife dropped in yesterday for refreshments, with me only wanting a cup of black tea and the missus choosing fresh pineapple juice. As weâve come to expect, the fresh fruit juices are generally delightful due to properly ripened fruits being used ... and this one was no exception. My tea was fine too. From that we decided to try it it for food, tonight. Big mistake! The first clue that all was NOT well, was in asking for the toilet and being shown to a bedroom downstairs and invited to use the attached bathroom? Well, okay I thought ... strange, but âwhateverâ. But then having had a beer in a bar half an hour beforehand soon felt the need to âgoâ again. This time I retraced my steps, but this time the door to the room was closed ... so tapped lightly on the door. A moment or two later a guy opened it wearing nothing but his âskivviesâ. Laughing it off, told this guy ânever mind, and sorry to disturb youâ and went up to tell my missus. Our young waiter wasnât on hand, so simply wandered down onto beach ... and with it being now dark enough, took a âleakâ by the shoreline. Upon my return, noticed a bottle of water with condensation had been brought to the table during my short absence. Again made light of the lack of customer toilets with the wife, but once more went downstairs again, but this time in search of a washbasin to rinse my hands (seeing as we intended eating). Searching in the vicinity of the kitchen area, managed to find what I was looking for, noted itâs grimy condition (not unusual in India) and went back upstairs. As I was relating the story about the washbasin which had likely never been cleaned since being fitted, grabbed the bottle of chilled water and unscrewed the blue cap ... stopping in mid sentence about the grime coated sink, I then muttered a âWTFâ? And realised the âclickâ of the blue cap snapping off of the sealing ring was absent! âThe Sneaky Bastardsâ ... in looking at the bottle could see it was filled to the brim ... Another âclueâ something was amiss. Irrespective of us asking for a bottle of mineral water, for which we were expected to pay 20 rupees it was clear weâd been given a bottle of water which had been refilled from the bloody tap. By this time my sense of humour which had been well stretched, suddenly failed me.Time to leave ...

Lake Haven Island ResortsGreat resort at Alappuzha. In traditional Kerala cottages and ambience, showing backwaters at its best. Highlight was the Ottamthullal performance by Suresh Varma who wraps the audience as characters into his performance after the introduction repertoire.
Based on the couple of reviews we looked for the place, could not find it the first place as there are no sign boards! A shopkeeper guided us. We couldn't really make out if they serve food so we just left. Not worth the efforts when they don't even wish to be seen.
