We went as a family and met friends - 8 in total with 2 young children. Booked table and arrived on time. Had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. We then waited another 20 minutes after ordering for our drinks. It took over 1 hour for our main course to be delivered. The sampler starter had a tiny amount of each sample - certainly not what one would expect and inadequate for the price charged. The food is good and the remodel is lovely but it is a shame the old bathrooms werenât redone. There are many empty boxes in the back hallway. The service is very pleasant but so incredibly slow - a bit incomprehensible as there are many servers. It is also moderately expensive.

Everyone in Latham raves about Karavalli. I disagree. When it comes to Indian food, I prefer Latham Biryani. I find most of its food better (especially all things tandoori!). I also find that the atmosphere is better for families. Karavalli makes me unwelcomed when we bring children.

I'm a big fan of the #2 Indian restaurant in Latham, but a friend recommended Shalimar, the Trip Advisor #3. The food was good, just not as much menu choice. The decor wasn't as elaborate; it was barely inviting. The service wasn't as great. The dal had a nice kick. The cheese naan was disappointing.

When you walk in it looks like a small, bare bones supermarket. They have a decent selection of Indian/Pakistani market items. Go to the back and order food! It's just delicious. I suggest the Veg Korma and the Chicken Kabobs. Excellent food. However, the atmosphere is like eating in an old kitchen. Not good for a date unless you're doing take out.
