Some time ago the I-40 highway sign for this exit added Punjabi Dhaba to the list of food options available. On a number of other occasions I went looking for it but it eluded me...finally last weekend I spotted them tucked next to a truck wash/tire/repair shop just east of the Loves gas station. Itâs easy to miss as itâs a very small concession trailer pulled up next to the waiting room of the truck stop, with a small outdoor patio consisting of a single picnic table and a narrow single bar type table. You can eat inside the waiting room also. Fairly recently, someone had roughly painted the name in red spray paint on the side of the trailer, which is how I finally found it. The only âmenuâ consists of a broken painted plywood sign at the entrance to the truck stop- absolutely nothing on the trailer itself, no prices, nada. There were 2 cooks and a gentleman serving through the window. A little shaky, but Iâm always up for a unique dining adventure. As a baseline I ordered Chicken Curry with rice, to go. It was served in your typical 3 compartment styrofoam box. There was a lot of rice but a very skimpy portion of the curry itself; it was mostly sauce with just a few chunks of meat, no visible vegetables, with some in each of the 2 smaller parts of the box and a bit poured over the rice. A decent helping of amazingly tasteless onion slices were arranged with the rice. No Naan bread or anything else was included in the $12 price, though I did see them making some up so itâs available. Without a menu who can tell? The service was quick and courteous. The curry was not well flavored or spiced; overall it was simply a bland, characterless but filling concoction. I thought it was overpriced; there are MUCH better options in Kingman just a few miles west, where you can get a real Indian or Thai meal for about the same price. Unless you find yourself suddenly getting ravenously hungry for so-so Indian cuisine as youâre headed east on I-40 and donât want to turn back, this is not worth a special stop. Perhaps if youâre a truck driver laid up waiting for tires or an oil change and looking for something more than a Subway sandwich from the Loves this might be a better choice. Reviewers have mentioned the mutton is good, so maybe Iâll give that a try next time Iâm passing through.
