Tamarind of Gisborne has become a Good name for Indian Food in small town at very reasonable price and good atmosphere .we are unique in providing family style service with smile . This restaurant has big space inside and outside for family and children .
Called in to buy takeout last week on a Thursday nite. Was given (and paid for) rice which I told them I didn't want as they don't offer brown rice. Didn't realise this until I got home. Service was slow and the restaurant wasn't busy with only three tables of customers. A waitress arrived part way through my wait and began rearranging the trays and picked up the cleaning cloths left in full sight next to the bar. She looked tired and unhappy in her job and didn't greet her employers. The decor is a wierd mix of light and dark wood, stained glass, Indian kitsch, and tacky chandeliers with ugly power saving light bulbs. I eat here about once every six months and the food is good, no complaints, but the service is inconsistent, drinks are scarce (don't expect to be offered a refill - you need to wave your hands or go to the bar and ask). This place has so much potential as a neighbourhood eatery but is let down by tacky decor and lacklustre service. An improvement would be to separate the takeout service from the restaurant by moving it to the disused lounge next to the dining area. I return only for the food and because it is within walking distance of home.Dear customer,Thanks for your concern and I appreciate you have closely watched the whole place . Customer like you really help us to improve further in every way .Thanks

The food was more than passable, but the seating and the layout considerably not.We had a mixture of chicken curries, all of which were acceptable. But the dinning tables were out of a cheap cafe. As they also do takeaways there's a constant line of people coming and walking through the restaurant to collect their meals which is somewhat disconcerting.
