Things to do in Bumthang
Mom and Pop place run by a hard-working young couple. She cooks FANTASTICALLY!!! OMG! I couldnât believe we found this after our hotel buffet was awful. We went for 4 meals our 2 days in Jakar. Spinach balls were delish, moist chicken, fresh pappadams. Best beef my husband had. Yum! We brought our own wine and beer which they were happy to open and serve. Just up from the Post Office in Jakar town, worth finding. Not at all expensive. Very attentive service. And our guide and driver gave the chili cheese 10 out of 10! Hey, if the locals like it you know itâs good.
During our stay in Jakar ( Bumthang) we decided to pay this restaurant a visit based on the lavish listing showered by LP. We went to this restaurant with an intent to have dinner and drinks however we were disappointed by the overall experience. The staff ( seems to be family run) were friendly but it took them quite a while to take our order even though we were the only customers there. We were kind of disappointed by the slowness of the service after the high expectation we had from Lonely Planet so we only ordered 2 Druk Beers. The beer itself took a while to come and what surprised us more was that the staff who were missing for most of the time didnt even check with us if wanted anything else, giving us an impression that we had walked into a house and the family was busy with its own household activities :-)Finally we had to walk up find the staff and ask for snacks which was not present so ordered chips instead. We dropped our plans for dinner after that. The restaurant also felt a bit hot and stuffy.Overall the staff gave us the impression that they were preoccupied , they were indifferent and seemed to come to life only around the time we were pushing off. Please note that they were not rude or unfriendly - they just seemed indifferent and out of the place. On the whole considering we went with a big expectation our experience was very mediocre ( starting to loose faith in Lonely planet)
This is a nice unpretentious restaurant with some good Indian food options.Don't expect a great ambience, it's like the down market restaurants you see in small town India, but the food we tried was quite good and the service was friendly.
