We couldn't get a seat at our usual restaurant, so we literally walked 10 meters, a quick look at the menu and we were sat down.Service was excellent, the food was very well presented, decent sized portions, of excellent quality and very reasonably priced. My wife particularly liked her Espada fish, served in a filo parcel.Drinks were reasonably priced. We sat outside, as most do, on the street which is only a few metres wide, with restaurants both sides, indoor tables are available if required. It is one of the restaurants near to the market as you walk the street. We had a great meal in a fantastic location. Well worth our money.

Visited twice in October and had some of the best fish we have ever had on Madeira. Been coming for 14 years so we know what we are talking about. Staff very friendly, polite and efficient. The chef is superb and needs congratulating on the quality of the meals he produces. Will definitely recommend to friends.

The restaurant "Latada do Doutor" it's placed in the heart of the Funchal city. A place dedicated to the love of the well eating and drinking, with a lovely backyard/terrace, surrounded with a plantation of aromatic and medicinal herbs where the costumers
We tried to find this restaurant last year, but geography has never been my strong point, and we failed miserably. We were actually just having a stroll and stumbled upon it on our return to Madeira this year. We booked fairly last minute through The Fork and thought that if it wasn't to our liking, we'd just have a main course, a drink and move on. Anyway, lovely staff greeted us and the covered courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of the City and the badgering of the waiting staff on Rua Santa Maria was a delight. We ended up sampling different wines (surrounded by birdsong and their home garden of herbs) and having a really lovely 3 course meal. Great care had been taken with the flavours and, although we had fish and pork for our main courses, they were both more inventive / creative than the standard fare. For example, my fish came on a bed of flavoured potatoes (fennel seed / Rosemary?) with roasted onions and toasted flaked almonds, plus a stuffed tomato - a very good sized portion, but I ate the lot. Please don't let the hidden location deter you, it's actually quite central once you know where it's hidden and becomes an all the more attractive proposition because of that. If you head up from the Marina road (Avenida do Mar) passing Theo's Bazar Cafe and the Golden Gate on your right, cross the road, and head straight up Avenida Zarco, there's the entrance to a medical practice and to the restaurant almost opposite you when you reach the next junction, and Bob's your Uncle - not off the beaten track at all, although it will feel like that when you get there. The Restaurant "Latada do Doutor" and the entire staff thank you for your excellent evaluation. It was a pleasure to serve you. We hope to see you soon. Best regards.

Our server brought us a shot of a different smoothie while we waited for ours, very attentive. Will definitely come back to try something else to drink and snack. So nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for the review. Please come back more often for more different flavour smoothies and juices. Don´t forget to visit us at the Madeira mall also. Thanks again.

The Snug is a great and wonderful place where you can enjoy nice food and dishes with your family and friends.. come to visit us and you won't regret it.
Positive reviews on tripadvisor made my wife and I want to visit this place. It looked like a cool quirky venue which offered something different. Really friendly lady served us and her english was very good. Starter was really poor. Our burgers werent really much better either. My bun was soggy and fell to pieces and the meat was really poor quality. It wasnt seasoned and it tasted just like eating mince meat in a bun.I think we must be just unlucky as the other reviews are really good.My salad was really good to be fair.Price was really cheap but maybe thats why our food wasnt as good as expected. Might be worth the punt but based on my experience I wouldnt go again

We booked a table here after reading the positive comments on TripAdvisor. You can chose to sit at an inside table or from 2 separate outdoor areas. The staff were friendly, casual but also professional. We very much enjoyed all the food we chose along with the wine flights chosen by the restaurant to accompany the meal.We will return when we are back in Funchal next year.Dear Mrs Mar_di_graDorking,Thankyou for taking time to leave a remark.
