Hida-gyu beef was excellent! Simply melts in your mouth. Everyone at the table had their own grill to cook their beef and vegetables. The restaurant is attached to as sake brewery and they offer a variety of sakes. Try the lemon sake. It is quite a treat. Not inexpensive but quite a treat.

Waited 40 minutes, but totally worth it! The local Hida Beef is AMAZING and just melts in your mouth. Fun to cook your own, lots of different combinations of platters to order and service is prompt and efficient when needed. We ended up ordering more - it was so good! The best meal we had on our 12 day trip to Japan was in this restaurant. About 5 minutes walk from the train station and well-worth finding. If you love beef, then this is definitely the place for you. Highly recommended!

We stumbled across this small bar on a cold night. Has English speaking host and you sit around the bar and can try different sake (and other drinks). We had sample tasting of four different local sake and also ate the okonomiyaki which was quite nice. Probably the most western place we have been in on our trip- just westerners when we were there.

Friend who we met at Alpine Route tour brought us there for dinner.We had great food,sake ,cake and fantastic service.We strongly recomend to all traveller to visit Cafe Umera whenever you are in Takamaya.Owner of the venue knows well with his menus and passion of his cooking and with exprience of sake we are sure whoever be there will strongly agree with us.
