I visited the GOTS with my wife for the first time after hearing many good reports from friends. Our visit did not go to plan however, the reception was pleasant and efficient as we were showed to our table but then the service dropped off.We waited 25 minutes for our drinks which were served with apologies, then after stating no mushrooms the wife's kebab was served with mushrooms, this at the one and a half hour point. Normally my review would be negative given the performance but something surprising happened. The reaction from the staff and management was completely professional, they were very disappointed with their failure to reach their standards and apologised profusely, genuinely! The meal was struck off and a further discount was issued.Mistakes Happen, when the attitude of an establishment is as professional and consciousness as the Grill on the Square, it reassures me that they won't happen too often. We will return!

This was my first outing since my husband died two months ago, and decided to visit this pub after visiting my mum who now lives in Latchford. I called in on Saturday dinnertime. The pub was pretty quiet, and I ordered a diet coke and a cheese, caramalised onion and chutney sandwich, which was lovely. The only disappointing thing that I wasn't keen on was when a couple came in with their puppy, and were shown to a table right behind me, then another couple came in a few minutes later with an older dog, who also sat behind me. No one bothered to ask me if it was ok to have dogs that were 2ft away from where I was eating.Hello,Thank you for taking time to review the Pickering arms, really glad you enjoyed your food.Really sorry but we were not aware you had a problem with the dogs, unfortunately you were sat in the bar/vault area which is where we welcome all our dogs. The restaurant area is dog free.I hope this clears things up for you and please feel free to give us a call to reserve a table in the restaurant if you wish to dine with us again.Kind regards.Christine, Jim and team pick.

I visited Smoke last month for a birthday bottomless Prosecco deal and it was excellent. I recommended it to friends and family so my daughter went and also loved it, so much so that she chose this venue for her birthday meal last night. Sadly our experience was not good this time. Despite booking well in advance we were shown to a tiny table in the far corner of the restaurant, next to the door into the kitchen and the route to the customer toilets. Consequently we had a constant stream of people passing by and at one point our waitress even dragged through the rubbish! The place was very busy when we arrived but initially the service was very good. We got our food and drinks pretty quickly and both the waitress and the manager came over and asked if all was OK.Unfortunately at that point the service stopped despite the fact that there were far fewer customers in by then. My glass sat empty for over 30 minutes with no offer of another. Our mains were finished and sat there for over 20 mins but nobody came near to clear them. At this point we gave up so went to the bar to pay.. sadly the manager was argumentative about our issues. He did offer a free glass of Prosecco but by then I didnât feel comfortable staying. As for the food, even that was disappointing. Overall very unhappy, a ruined birthday meal.
