We were staying the lovely medieval town of Labastida and were recommended by the hotel owner to Asador Jatorrena. We were shown to a very large cafe room, where the lighting was very bright and the furniture like a school dining room and lacking in atmosphere. There was only one more table occupied in the room by a Swedish Family, and, in fact we chatted to them during the meal. My OH decided to order the morcilla (black pudding) and, in fact, generally I prefer Spanish black pudding to English, as it's more spicy and has rice in it, instead of lumps of fat. However, when it came it was enormous (about 8" long) and was boiled and , in fact the Swedish table and ourselves just burst out laughing when we saw the size of the thing. To be fair, the very pleasant waitress warned us that it was "grande". However he ate the whole thing and he enjoyed it, although having tried a little taste myself, I didn't like it. Their speciality was having an individual bar-be-que brought to your table with your chosen meat. I chose lamb chops and when deposited on the table I couldn't see the point, as they were already over-cooked and very thin. We didn't bother with puddings and would not return if in the area.

True traditional restaurant and bar, also very popular with locals. Enough to choose from on the menu, but the steak is recommended. Tito is a very friendly host
Great ponchos including some amazing locally produced cheeses. And of course, a brilliant wine selection.

We arrived early for a lunch so sat out the back with a small beer until they started to serve. We don't smoke but it is a pleasant walled space where one could if that was wanted. The lady who has the grandchildren after which the restaurant is named, was so friendly and brought us a homemade tapa of tripe, which my husband loved and tucked into. Her son Paco speaks a little English and could translate the menu for us. It is no longer 11 euros for a 3 course lunch with wine, increased slightly. The wine is good for a house wine and I wasn't expecting anything expensive with a menu meal (unlike some other reviewers, who seemed to think it should be top notch as you're in Rioja. In fact, Paco let us buy a box of it from his store as the bodega opposite wasn't open). Our lunch was filling, tasty and home-cooked. There is an open fire for barbecue. The room is too large for cosy but it's clean and I would recommend a meal there. It was our second visit (and my second fair review) so we must've liked it to return!Thank you very much for your opinion. We were very happy for your return. We will continue to work to maintain this level , trying to inprove each day. We wait for you next year. Greetings from the whole Los Nietos team.

We went to this restaurant as it was recommended, however, we found it quite average. Waitresses were lovely though but food was average at similar prices to other places where we had better meals. (Note: there are two Beethoven restaurants, we were at Beethoven I)

Decided to visit Beethoven after reading the reviews and wasn't disappointed mainly due to great service from Helena who spoke perfect English. She recommended wines and local food which was delicious. On the second night we tried the T Bone Steak. The steak was sliced off the bone and served on a hot stone plate allowing it to continue to cook. The taste was unbelievable!!
