My husband booked us a table at this charming grotto for a Sunday lunch whilst we were staying in the Induna Olona area. Although we have travelled in the area a number of times, we hadn't experienced a genuine 'grotto' - and what a delightful experience it turned out to be. We were seated at the end of a large, communal dining bench, under a pergola heavy with vines. An olive wood board of exquisitely rustic charcuterie arrived - and rapidly disappeared... as did a bottle of the local red wine, which we drank from small pottery cups, grotto-style. Mains were perfectly grilled cuts of pork and lamb from the barbecue. Grotto del Cavic was packed with families enjoying their Sunday lunches - it was a wonderful atmosphere in a very pretty setting and the food was superb. It also made a welcome change from some of the region's more formal, finer dining restaurants.

Probably the highest quality of venison meat ever had; salmi di capriolo was just over the top, porcini mushrooms which are a local delicacy and polenta were served with the tender meat. We had also a very nice first with lardo di colonnata, salami and ham. Really a great great. Worth visiting for anyone who loves local traditional cuisine.
