Visited for lunch on the recommendation of two different locals - and it was excellent. Arrived early as not so many tables -all al fresco at the business end of the port. Ordered the same thing as the person in front of us in the queue - great choice. Wine, beer or water available to wash it down. Simple but superb.

Our second visit was for my 76th birthday. We took 3 3 very good friends, one of whom drove. The location is attractive in rolling wooded hills (Bocage) between Cöex and St Gilles-Croix de Vie, but about 2 kilometres off the busy highway. Parking is excellent and the old but modernised restaurant is overshadowed by the 250 year old Moulin (mill), surrounded bt spcious grounds including play areas and a small vineyard. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a nicely situated table, My aperitif was a Single Malt Whisky (fairly popular in the Vendée, The Ladies enjoyed Kir Royales. Starters were light and tasty, but I and one of our guests enjoyed a thick, juicy and perfectly cooked piece of Sirloin each. The other three chose either a crêpe or a galette. We washed the meal down with a decent bottle of Muscadet and a local bottle of Red folloed by coffee. The bill was a very modest 96 Euros, which docked my Post Office Credit Card a mere £71. We fished up with a stroll round the grounds before taking a scenic 3 kilometre walk around the near-by Lac du Gué Gorand on a beautiful and warm October afternoon.

Went to L'Avano for dinner after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor.A very friendly place located close to town and harbour.The atmosphere is comfortable and we were greeted with a smiling face.There was a good choice of food on the menu, steak, burgers, pizza and moules.My wife and I had pizza's and my daughter had the pasta, all dishes looked and tasted great. Though we didn't have them, the Moules looked fantastic.We sat outside listening to the band playing in a nearby resturant.The service was very good.There is ample parking close to the restaurant2 x Pizza, 1 x pasta, bottle of wine, soft drink = 60 Euro's.
