This was our first time to visit the Peppermill Cafe. For first timers, I'll mention that you enter the cafe at the side entrance and exit through the door facing Main Street. We arrived a little before regular lunch time and were promptly seated. Many people started coming in after we were there. It took us awhile to browse the extensive menu. You can check the menu out ahead of time online. We both ordered the Two Chili Dog Combo that costs $7.29. You receive two chili dogs, a huge portion of fries, and a drink for that price. Our chili dogs had what tasted like home made chili, mustard and onions. We requested the slaw on the side. We each got a custard cup size portion of slaw. We liked our chili dogs. The fries were hot and fried golden on the outside. The slaw was simply okay - it tasted like it had been around for a while and really wasn't seasoned at all. We also received drinks in the combo. I ordered mine without ice and got a glass filed with ice. My only refill - after I had again requested no ice - was a glass partially filled with diet soda. This ice in drink issue was the only time our service was not good. The cashier was very slow and the line to pay was backing up towards the entry door. So we sat down until the line to pay got smaller. We enjoyed the meal we had here and think you will, too.
nother one of those great mom & pop restaurants that doesn't impress much from the outside, but is clean and bright inside, and more importantly, serves up some pretty good food. This one has been around since 1987, is 100% Greek owned, and just won (again) the High Point Enterprise readers award as best local lunch place for 2014 - I know, I know - some of these "best local" contests might lack a certain gravitas - but this one rings true. The menu is varied, offering subs, pitas & wraps, wings, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, a few plates (marinated chicken, chicken tenders, gyro, souvlaki), pasta dishes, and a variety of salads. They have a daily special for $5.69, which generally includes a 10" sub and a 20 oz drink. We tried several items, including a Hot Dog ($2.19), a Cheeseburger ($3.29), a 10" Italian Sub ($5.89), a Gyro on Pita ($5.99), and finally a small side of house made Chicken Salad (5 oz for $3.55). The Hot Dog was not one we'd reorder - the "chili" is more a meat sauce, with Greek spices, suitable for pasta, but not on a wiener. The Chicken Salad was loaded with fresh tasting chicken, but is a bit sweet for my taste due to the sweet pickles in it. The Italian Sub was pretty good, but was a little light on the meat and cheese, and heavy on the tomato and mayo - that combination results in the tastes of the meat and cheese being rather muted. The Cheeseburger is outstanding - well sized, full of flavor, and a great bargain at $3.29. This sandwich also was a little heavy on the tomato, but removing a slice is an easy answer. The Gyro is also simply excellent - a combination of seasoned beef and lamb, well cooked on a vertical pit, as the meat in a Gyro should be. The meat is sliced a little thicker than most you'll find, and this seems to keep the meat from drying out, and it is loaded with flavor. Again the removal of a slice or two of fresh tomato was an improvement. The Philly Steak & Cheese, and the Marinated Chicken Sub or Plate are well thought of here - we'll try them on the next visit, 'cause we'll be back.

In addition to pizza, Jimmy's serves pasta and a variety of American meals. The hot open face roast beef was quite good. They fry their own potato chips. Seating is available outside under umbrellas or inside at a bar or in booths. Waitress is friendly and informative

Saddened to have to rate only 4. Very nice folks in this family run establishment, clean and good atmosphere, these folks work very hard no doubt. Unfortunately the food is not a five star material for someone who is rather familiar with mediterranean cuisine, they have a decent vegan selection, if that helps... Their piyaz is very good

Recommend for a quick breakfast or lunch on Main St in the center of High Point within a short walk from the furniture showrooms. Looks like a mother, father and daughter run a family "luncheonette" that whips up modestly priced good fresh food.
