Reviews on Greek food in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Best known as the capital of Charlemagne's Frankish empire, today's Aachen sits at the juncture where Germany meets the Netherlands (the Dutch know it as Aken) and Belgium (where "Walloons" call it Aix-la-Chapelle). But Aachen's history goes back even further than 8th-century Charlemagne. Roman soldiers dating back to the 1st century AD cherished its hot springs (as did Charlemagne, who loved a good spa day just as much as the next guy). Aachen Cathedral, northern Europe's oldest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the city's main attraction.

"The Mighty Blacksmith" is tucked up the hill from the cathedral. My Sunday midday meal (post Mass) included a draft Hannen Alt, Paprika-Sahne-Schnitzel (breaded pork cutlet in cream sauce with bell peppers, mushrooms and onions) with a mixed salad and home fries prepared with bacon and onions. The pork was hot (temp) but a bit tough. The sauce was bland, although helped by the roasted veggies. The bacon gave the potatoes pizzazz.

Three of us visited for dinner we all ordered lamb, it consisted of a large pile of thinly sliced and almost shredded lamb, chips reassembling matchsticks and a small amount of salad. It was extremely nice, I cannot remember it's name, but it included the word complete. The waiter had a mischievous sense of humour as he let us struggle for a while with a German menu, before giving us a copy in English, so if you are not fluent in German ask the English speaking waiter for an English menu.

My husband and I lived for years in Burtscheid and always came here. Super friendly family that serves you always with good cheer whether in the cold of winter or the sweltering heat of summer. The couple that run the restaurant (sometimes we see their daughter) knew our order by heart after a couple of months. The food is excellent and fresh. When we visit Aachen we always come back here to say hi. Highly recommended! Only downside is there is limited seating inside. We always take our order to-go. We've been to several other Greek restaurants and only found one other that even compares.
