Things to do in Villach

We went here because it's not so close to the touristic area. Only a few locals were there when we arrived but it got more crowded later and it was only Tuesday. We had a lovely dinner outside under the trees. Zur Post is worth a visit if you want to escape from the tourists.

Nice place to eat, there was a crowd of locals who seem to have a good time there. We all ate wiener schnizel and it was nice, we payed 61 euro for 5 persons.

Usually this kind of " gasthaus" are simple Austrian restaurants were the food is good and local.Unfortunately we din't have a nice experiencia here...The food was just ok.But the big disappointment was the service: the waiters were not only slow and not very helpful but also quite unkind... we haven't seen a simple smile during our time there...Before we arrived apparently someone threw beer on the floor, one of the waiters cleaned it, but I would not call that really a proper cleaning, when he " finished" it wasn't real clean at all...Getting the attention of the service was pretty difficult. Moreover one of waiters spent a lot of tima taking with some ladies seated at one of the tables instead of paying attention and watching if someone needed him.., finally one would expect in such a place low prices. That was not the case... a pity really...

Been there yesterday, the waiter unfortunately rather had a goof than talk with her clients who do not speak German, in English. The food arrived rather quickly, and the plates were very hot, which I liked a lot, since the food didn't get cold that fast. The most annoying thing was that the non-smoking area was not ventilated sufficiently, which made the air inside quite unpleasant.

Its a guesthouse and a restaurant
The atmosphere sat outside this restaurant was lovely. Locals playing cards and families and friends enjoying themselves. We ordered a sharing platter which was expensive for what it was but tasty all the same. The staff were attentive and polite and it was good to try some traditional local food

Here you can taste the famous Villacher Beer, served with delicious Austrian specialities.
This lovely restaurant, with a tree covered terrace, is less then 8 minutes walk from the train station. We had less than two hours between our train from Slovenia and our bus to Venice. This was a wonderful slice of Austria for us. The sausages were good, and the strudel was excellent!

I have been here twice in the past 3 years. The food both times has been very good. I had the pastrami fillet which was excellent. The salad was a little on the small side, and somewhat plain. I didn't have the soup, but was told it was good. The one negative was I found the table to be a little cramped, and the seating itself wasn't great (comfortable). The restaurant does have a little bowling alley (2 lanes - traditional 9 pin) for some after dinner fun if you haven't had too much to drink.
