We were invited by my brother-in-law for his 60th birthday, and not having heard very much about this place we were absolutely gob-smacked the moment we walked in the door. Very attractively renovated, lots of room, and packed with diners. That said something right away. The meal proved it - exceptional! Mind, I do not know what the prices are like, but I'm told that they are affordable considering the high quality of service and the locale. The meal was expertly served, cleverly presented and very tasty. We began with a lovely salad - greens and quark, then a herbed cream soup, braided salmon, and for the main course lamb that melted in one's mouth. The local wine (Spätburgunder) pairs beautifully. The entire experience was just perfect. I highly recommend the Mühlenhof and suggest you call ahead to reserve, especially on the weekend. Looking at their website, I see it's made the 2013 Michelin guide, if that matters to you.
*Previously submitted on the German site* *May be redundant?*Travelling with another couple, close friends, we were looking for the Alte Geroldsecker Waffenschmiede in Seelbach, as I had often visited his mill while stationed in Lahr, Schwarzwald with the Canadian Army years ago. Sad to know that Herr Fehrenbach is no longer with us, and that the mill produces no blank weapons in the ancient tradition as before. However, the people of the Schwerte have taken over responsibility and still run occasional short tours of the ancient mill.We had a wonderful lunch at the Schwert, friendly atmosphere and good service. On the wall was a photo of Herr Fehrenbach with his first (I think) double-handed sword, which now hangs in my home in Kingston, Canada. The Schwert is tastefully decorated, neat and clean, serving good meals at reasonable prices. It was very popular with Canadians before the brigade was withdrawn from Deutschland. We did not stay in the hotel, but have always recommended the well-prepared and plentiful food served here in the restaurant. Our sincere thanks to the owners and staff for an excellent and enjoyable lunch visit, just as before, and for preserving the old mill.It was great to be back.

Immer sehr empfehlenswert!

Excellent service and very nice foodSome 10 km from the motorway exit Lahr on the A 5 Basel â Frankfurt we found this nice place in the centre of a small village. Some of the rooms have been redecorated recently but we had a room that was somewhat dated. Pr0bably because of the summer season the heating was off in both room and bathroom, a bit cold in the morning⦠Perhaps the price for the old room was a bit too expensive, but we walked up without a reservation so we had no choice. We also had to carry our bags to the second floor because no elevator but the manager helped us right away. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, rich breakfast and very good service. For people enjoying the Black Forrest, local German and international cuisine and good wines - by the glass or by the bottle - the place is higly recommended.

We have been to the Gasthaus zur Eiche several times over the past few years (I have a sister-in-law living in Lahr) and, as the title says, we've never been disappointed. It is perhaps best experienced in the summer on their lovely terrace that overlooks Lahr and area. We were there recently for a New Year's Eve meal. Other than it being perhaps a bit too over-lit for a late evening meal, it was a super dinner. The food, the service, the ambiance were all excellent. The place was packed as one had to reserve several days in advance of course, but there was no degradation whatsoever in quality or service. You have to drive a bit farther out of Lahr to reach the Langenhard (10 minutes) but it's well worth the short trip. We will go back to the Eiche and I suspect we will not be disappointed then either.

In the past, I have already eaten in this very good restaurant and this time I was once again very satisfied.I ate a very good "red beet carpaccio with caramelized goat cheese" as starter, followed by a very good "veal steak with Asparagus and risotto". The cooking of the veal (requested as medium) was perfect. The service was good and very friendly (only issue : in German only), the choice of local wines is interesting. We paid around 100 ⬠for 3 drinks, 3 starters, 3 main dishes and half a litter of local red wine.I strongly recommend this place.

First, there are two parts to the facility (three, actually): the restaurant, the Gasthaus (adjoining) and the hotel itself (also adjoining). The restaurant is Michelin-rated (one-star, I believe), and since the Gasthaus utilizes the same kitchen at least in my mind it is ipsofacto also Michelin one-star rated. In fact, it doesn't really matter since you get a fabulous meal in lovely surroundings so who cares how many stars? So, we were four: sister-in-law and husband, my wife and I. A Friday evening and it was busy but not full. Neither was the restaurant. However, I recommend reservations in either, if you can manage that. Nice ambiance, a small courtyard off the Gasthaus as well for fair weather times. The service was noticeably smart, with young ladies appropriately attired in casual black dress. They are training or have trained for service in high-end establishments. No problem to speak English, they understand and speak it well. The food was, not surprisingly, excellent. The menu isn't extensive but there is a nice selection of one, two or three course meals, with prices ranging from just under Euro 20 to around Euro 30. These are very good prices. Also a la carte. The wine list has many fine choices, mostly regional, but is not extensive. The ingredients, too, are largely from the region. We had: Reh (roe deer), Schwarzwald trout and, for me, a real Wiener Schnitzel, made from veal (Euro 21, with fries and a salad). And it was, to quote Basil Fawlty "Veally, veally, good!" Creme Brule for dessert (the best you'll ever have!). The only small glitch was that we waited quite a while for the main course to arrive - nearly an hour after we had sat. This was acknowledged (but not explained) and earned us an on-the-house espresso at meal's end. Well worth a trip down the Schuttertal to Reichenbach!
