German Bierhaus Rayong

Our primary aim was to have some draught beer instead of singha and leo. The beer was very good but we were let down by our average German food - snitzel; bratwurst along with potato salad and fries. Maybe just have beer next time if we return?

If you find yourself at one of the many bungalows, guesthouses, or condo-apartments along the Mae Rampheung beach road, you will – undoubtedly, at some point during your stay (and embarrassingly so) – find yourself tired of Thai fare.I know, bow your head in shame. When such an affliction so afflicts you, go in search of the German flag (horizontal stripes of black, red, gold, respectively) about 1 kilometer from the western beginning of the road, where it kisses the beach for the first time. Then prepare yourself for a good German feeding. No "knuckle braaten" here.Instead you get home made delicacies like goulash with dumplings or spaetzle, an excellent chicken kiev.Take your time, drink some beer - this is going to take a while. In typical Thai fashion (and a-la Major Winchester in M*A*S*H, things get made one at a time, slowly, very well, and then served before the next item is begun. Infuriating, no doubt, if you are a party of 16, but tolerable enough if you are two or three. An excellent breakfast (with TWO cups of coffee - Germans know the value of a good cuppa joe) can be had for 110 baht. And the bread... THE BREAD! Longing for a nice rye landbrot? Well it doesn't exist in Thailand. But the next best thing, served warm and with real, unsalted butter does. This is a great place, run by an ex-German BMW salesman and his Thai wife, who took early retirement and decided to live on easy street. Make it just a bit easier for them by visiting this restaurant. You won't be sorry.
