We were traveling along the Italian autostrada and looking for a place to grab lunch. We pulled off in Sterzing and came across this gem. Sterzing is a cute Sudtirol city and Sternhutte Rosskopf was exactly what we would have expected. It is attached to a small hotel and has a great menu of German and Italian food. The service was quick and courteous, and the food was delicious. I wish we would have had a bit more time to explore the area (2 beautiful old castles)!

This year we were pressed for time when we passed the San Leonardo Restaurant 'Sandwirt', but had the pleasure of eating here five years ago. We had a lunch which was regional in flavour, presented by smiling staff. We chose to sit on the terrace in front of the house in which the regional hero Andreas Hofer, the 'Sandwirt' (innkeeper) was born in 1767. He became a freedom fighter against Napoleon, for his home land South Tyrol, then part of Austria. Inside the house and the adjoining museum his memory is kept alive by many exhibits dating to his time. The dishes we had chosen were like home cooking unmistakably also indebted to Austrian cuisine and very tasty. I loved my choice of 'Pflaumenknödel' a kind of cooked dessert-like main dish, dumplings filled with plums. If you like regional and Austrian as well as Italian food, in casual setting at an historical place, visit the 'Sandwirt' restaurant in San Leonardo, a bilingual place in the north of Italy

Stayed one night 15 years ago on our honeymoon and again one night this summer. Fantastic views and quite romantic back then - a little less so now, as not much has been done to the place since then. Even so, the hosts are very nice, the food is above average and the views are still their breathtaking same. And the hotel sent us on our way with a bottle of bubbles as a token of appreciation. We will go back and so should you: stay there, have them earn some money so that they can do up this little hotel (and turn it into the true little gem it has the potential to become again).

Welcome to our family-run bar / restaurant. We serve you with local and Italian dishes. Furthermore you have a big choose of South Tyrolean beers. We are located in the middle of the main street from our small City Sterzing. We have also a terrace.
Sterzing/Vipiteno turned out to be a very nice alternative to lunch in Brenner. The town itself is nice, with a Tyrolean feel, and very pretty. The restaurant is affiliated with a hotel and somewhat modern but with lots of wood. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. I had what they called their "favorite" menu item, a 3-pasta dish, with spinach ravioli and 2 dumplings, plus pumpkin soup. All were tasty. The portion sizes are large. They do have an English menu. Prices were very reasonable. The town has a city parking lot nearby so access is easy. All in all, a great lunch stop.Dear Mr. maiersm, thanks for your rating on TripAdvisor. We are very happy that you were soddisfied with your visit in our restaurant. Thanks for this good rating and we would be glad to welcome you us our guest again soon.Best regards,Hotel Lamm
Quaint mountain hut with wonderful views. There are various typical South Tyrolean dishes such as dumplings, pancakes, strudel and meat dishes.

An improvised hike brought us to the village of San Marino, where we had a delightful lunch at Gasthaus Lamm. Not the ordinary off the shelf standard Südtirol dishes, but a surprising alternate approach to the local cuisine. With alternatives for vegetarians as well. Varied wine selection of good quality as well. In a nutshell: excellent restaurant!

We visit ratschings every year and every day have lunch at the wasserfalleralm.Around twenty of us eat there, around one big table at the back of the place, the food is always good, and the service is always fantastic. The chap who looks after us (I forget his name) is brilliant, friendly as they come, quick and precise. The local bier is good. It's a 20 second walk from the lift, there is an apres ski igloo outside, and toilets at the base of the building, you can enter from outside. There are a few routes down from here, but I recommend heading down the western slope of the lift, and catching the next lift further up.

Wide assortment on the menu, good quick service, solid local food options, and great ambiance at the head of the valley. The best place in the area to drop in for a quick bite.
