Stopped by Aal on a weekdn trip to the North Sea with some friends.Location-wise, it's easy to find, and away from the hussle and bustle of the main street. But more importantly, the staff was super friendly and accomodating, service was quick and the food was great. No wonder the place has been open since 1911!

We only serve fisch meals
During our stay in Kappeln we had to visit "die Alte Räucherei" in Kappeln because that is the place where you can eat delecious fish in a great atmosphere directly at the harbor of Kappeln. We had a beautiful table directly at the bar. We enjoyed our dinner with a glas of cider. I had the "Gourmet Teller" with filets of "Scholle" and king prawns served with a salad and fried potatoes. We had a beautiful time there and we are looking forward to our next stay in Kappeln and dinner at Duncan's (owner of Alte Räucherei) place!

Restaurant has a friendly ambiance with comfortable seating inside or on the balcony. The menu is not frilly and offers plenty for the seafood seeking diner. My wife and I were both impressed with the quality of service, presentation and taste of our dishes. We agreed that it was a nice experience and great value for the price. If you have some room left you can share a delicious dessert too.

We both ordered "Hafen-Fischplatte mit Gemüse der Saison, Bratkartoffeln". Large portions. There should have been a little more taste. But overall we were satisfied.

The food was OK but nothing out of the ordinary. The food seems to be freshly made and way above the food in the neighbouring buffet restaurant Spitzbergen. The selection of wine is very poor. The selection of meals is simple but there are some steaks and a few fish dishes to choose between.
Fairly new, the Bistro Baywatch comes along with the cable wakeboard park in Damp. The place is a stone throw away from the beach of the Baltic Sea right across the dam. It's a 5 min walk outside of Damp and to the harbor of Damp. With Damp being not the prettiest place at the Baltic coast line, this place has all you need. Decent prices for drinks and snacks as well as for day tickets of the cable park. Quite some entertainment watching the first steps of beginners and a relaxing atmosphere among young people. There is a miniature golf course right next to it, which makes it worthwhile to spend a day there.

I (as a middle aged British guy) was attending my German uncle's forest funeral on a cold crisp Saturday 10/2 in Damp. His daughter had researched this restaurant on TA to cater for the group of about 20 attendees, including a large dog, a baby and three octogenarians. She chose it because it had a very good reputation, accepted dogs and was relatively close to the funeral. She contacted the family who own and run it and found it was able to open especially for the funeral party in the afternoon before their usual Saturday 16:00 opening hours. She sent her sister to test it the week before the event. Her sister was impressed obviously! The funeral party arrived in daylight via the country lanes at about 13:00 and the long table was ready for us. The cloakroom was in the lobby and was wellised. The loos were at the back and were smart and clean, also well used! We took our random seats and were offered whatever drinks we needed to warm us up after the al fresco 'service'. Teas, wine, beers. The courses had been ordered two weeks beforehand as the large group needed planning to be catered for by the owner and chefs.Within a few minutes the main courses started to be distributed. Most of us had the Damper Pannfisch which seemed to be their speciality. I am technically a (very bad) vegetarian/pescatarian and avoided the ubiquitous pork. We were near the Baltic so fish was my choice! The servings were a good size and everyone enjoyed the fresh fish (obviously ordered in in advance especially as we had ordered) with the bratkartoffeln and a healthy dressed salad. Extra sauce was provided and my half litre of dunkelweizen went down well. All the plates were clean at the end so the portions were right.Coffee appeared and we helped ourselves whilst catching up on news, gossip and other issues. In some spare moments I asked for a wifi access but the owner said they had none as coverage was so bad there due to its being so remote. I only had Edge access, not even 3G so could not access any pictures on the cloud to show my relatives. No big problem as it is nice to get away from it all!! An hour later cakes were available, a large fresh cream cake which was delicious and slices of pflaumenkuchen (plum cake) which was also delcious. The remainders were later wrapped up in foil and I have been eating some on the train that I am writing this on the Sunday whilst on my way to Berlin using the ICE free and efficient wifi. The gathering petered out by 18:00 and we direct family remainders finally left after paying the bill (shared by the children). A couple of diners had arrived by 17:00 to eat in what would have been an empty restaurant had it not been for us. I expect other diners arrived later.
