Things to do in Mayen
A local favorite, for a lunch rush hour and party service catering, with excellent service and full of flavor, big portions and traditional local German food. A person cant go wrong here, the menu changes daily, I did stay 3 weeks here in Mayen and was a perfect place for lunch. for under 10 euros you get a drink and a great dish. Like a mention, good size portions and full of flavor.
Die Menükarte ist vielfältig, originell und hebt sich von anderen Restaurants ab. Der Gasthof ist sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und die Bedienung ist zu vorkommend. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hingehen.

We made our annual trip to Mayen (after a wonderful hike in nearby Monreal) and had an early dinner here. Their homemade hell bier is good. I had a great zigeuner schnitzel with bratkartofflen while my wife had a cheese burger. The schnitzel and bratkartofflen were excellent as always. The burgerâs sauce (Knoblauch) was good but the burger itself was lacking seasoning.

When we are traveling in Germany and want to have lunch or dinner, we have one axiom: Leave the motorway, get to the first village and then stop at the first "Gasthof" and we are OK for a good meal with cold beer at a reasonable price. But, when we were on our way to a Pentecost weekend in the vicinity of Cochem, this axiom sprang a leak when we entered the city of Mayen. When driving round the main part of Mayen, the eateries we encountered lacked parking space or were boarded up. When we were on our way out of Mayen through the Polcherstrasse, at last! Restaurant Berti. Restaurant Berti has ample parking space, also due to the fact that the first (second in the US) floor of the building is a hotel. The weather was fine so we had our meal in the garden. The menu is international, with Italian fare and pizza as large component. The food is well cooked, the beer is cold and prices are reasonable. Service is a bit slack, could be more attentive, but very friendly. We enjoyed this restaurant so much, that on our way back home on Pentecost Monday evening, we stopped again at Restaurant Berti to sit and have dinner in the garden. Luckily I had taken the foresight to put the coordinates in the GPS on the first visit. By the way, the restaurant inside the building is roomy and airy and a good place to have your meal, but the garden is better of course, if possible. Restaurant Berti is to be recommended.

Only 200m from the Bürresheim Castle a nice restaurant, we sat for lunchin the winter garden terrace. I had delicious scallops wrapped in a bacon jacket over potato salad with pine nuts and salad. Good food, good location in a nice setting. Do not miss this restaurant if you visit the Castle!

I know, I shouldn't say "Yugoslavian Food". But I do. It is typicial balcan cuisine they serve. Friedly staff, spicy food and a salad buffet that is loved by my kids. As usual the chef competes with the guest. I always had the impression, that he wants to kill be the sheer amount of food he puts on the plates. No joking. Masses of spicy and tasty food in a friendly environment. Very nice place.
