Find out what German restaurants to try in Lindau. Lindau (officially in German: Lindau (Bodensee)) is a major town and an island on the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German). It is the capital of the Landkreis or county Lindau, Bavaria, and located near the borders of Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Thurgau). The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree, referring to the supposed origin of the town's name (Linde means linden tree in German). The historic town of Lindau is located on an 0.68-square-kilometre (0.26 sq mi) island, which is connected with the mainland by a road-traffic bridge and a railway dam leading to Lindau station.

We popped in here for a late lunch, on a Friday. The restaurant is on the main street of the historic center. The place was full of locals, so we decided to try it. The menu is abridged in between typical lunch and dinner hours. Perhaps prices were cheaper than those on the regular menu, because lots of locals were there to eat. I enjoyed my local "red" sausage order while my friend's braised pork was not memorable. Service was attentive with menus in English. Prices were on the lower side. There was no wifi here.

My wife and I went first time to this restaurant after recommendation from the place where we stayed overnight, some 3 km away. The beer-garden was nearly full and there were only three tables left when we arrived at 6pm. We sat in the sun, order a glass of Kerner wine (which was excellent) and a typical bavarian Weissbier. The menu showed Spargel and my wife ordered the same with chicken and I had a "Zwiebelriostbraten" )beef fillet with roasted potatoes and fried onions). Food was very good, the beef nearly to the point - as I ordered medium, it was a little overdone - but tasty and of excellent quality. We ordered some more Kerner wine and, unfortunately, had tp wait about 10 minutes until we received the new filled glasses. Meanwhile the whole beer-garden was filled up with guests and a lot of people had to go inside the "Gasthof" to have dinner as there was no place outside anymore. We had for dessert a "Süssser Traum" which was a home-made apple strudel with vanilla ice-cream and hot chocolate sauce. Nice to see that it was served with two spoons and forks without asking for it. My wife and I enjoyed the dessert and were a little unhappy with the espresso served afterwards as it was too much coffee with little foam and had nothing to do with the italian espresso. The waitress, a lady at around mid 40s, and another younger waitress seemed to be a little stressed because of the full beer-garden and therefore, maybe, the service was not what we expected. Still, the lady serving us had her nose a little too high up.

this restuarant, that belogs to helvetia hotel, has a very good location, even better in summer as its terrace is literally on the water, overlooking lindau harbourvery good service, efficient and politeacceptable food: falafel was average, roast pork with beer sauce was average, good argentinian meat steak, good creme brulee with ice cream as dessertprice on the high sidehaving a doubt when rating this place in tripadvisor, whether 3* or 3*, the price finally led me to 3*

Iâve been travelling through Bavaria for three weeks including a few days on Lindau. The food throughout the trip has been variable with few highlights but Weinstube Frey is one of the exceptions. From the outside you could easily miss this restaurant especially as the restaurant itself is on the first floor but seek it out and you wonât be disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful. Taking you back several hundred years itâs panelled walls, ancient beams and glorious windows truly set the scene for a memorable meal. Like other restaurants in Lindau dining is casual as most people are on holiday and donât necessarily have the appropriate clothing for a more formal experience. Service was exceptional for Lindau where I have found most restaurants busy, lacking in atmosphere and very much â production lineâ. The staff in Weinstube Frey, although busy were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The menu is quite small but nether the less there is something for everyone. My Zwiebelrostbraten ( steak with fried onions) was exceptionally good especially the accompanying sauce. The house wines sourced very locally are also very good.Overall this was one of the best restaurant experiences, particularly for Lindau. Itâs offers great value for money, caring staff, great location and excellent food. I highly recommend you try it and donât forget to book,

The service is very friendly, attentive, but still unintrusive. The food is delicious, regional cuisine at its bests, the menu has some signature dishes, but there is also always something new to discover. The atmosphere is relaxed, but correct.

We only had one night in Lindau and our hotel had recommended 3 or 4 restaurants in the town (for German cuisine) and as this one was only a couple hundreds away from where we were staying we choose to eat here. The restaurant had quite a few tables in its rear garden, so although we had not booked and the place was busy (and this was a Monday) we got a table no problem. I got the impression there were a few locals eating here as well as us tourists. We tried struggling with the German menu but in the end we asked for an English menu. The service was good despite it being busy and there were only one or two staff doing the waiting. I had the local fish which was nice as was the chicken that my wife had. So there were one or two variants to the normal German menu and I think that the good was the most arty we had had during our trip. With a couple of beers, soft drink and coffee the hill came to just over 50 euros, which has been the going rate for us. So this was a good pointer by our hotel, we would recommend it.

Very good food and excellent service in this local restaurant. The owner sponsors a local football club adjacent to the restaurant. There was an English menu available. There was a very friendly atmosphere.

We picked this restaurant from the trip Advisor reviews and wernt dissapointed. The food is good quality German fair. Not expensive. One thing surprised us at first is that we were sharing a table with another couple. Once we got over that, it was interesting to meet some locals (and this does appear to be a local's spot) and made for an interesting evening. We enjoyed the meal sufficiently that we went back the following evening as there was plenty of options to choose from the menu.

Bavarian cuisine
I arrived quite late from Munich and the staff were VERY welcoming and despite the restaurant closing soon, I was given a menu to get a meal which was really good and very tasty thus setting me up for a sleep. A good wholesome breakfast really set me up for the day and for me it was the highlight of my European travels this time around.Excellent!!

Regional Restaurant, specialized on "all handmade" food - no convenience. The speciality of the restaurant is real barbecue from wood-fired smokers, combined with the regional bavarian and swabian kitchen. The chef is also in a regional TV show called "Wi
We ate here on our last night staying on the campsite on whose grounds this restaurant sits. However it is entirely independent. As with other reviews this was also one of our nicest meals on our German holiday. This restaurant specialises in BBQ with a number of sophisticated smokers and types of BBQs. They also have a full menu of other items including burgers steaks and Pasta . We had a soup of the day a lovely creamy horseradish soup, I had the ribs with a southern US style whiskey sauce and my wife the schnitzel. Service was great again the best on our trip with an attentive waitress for whom nothing was too much trouble, a side of slaw for my ribs not on the menu. Good local range of beers and wine.Hello Drew, thanks a lot for your kind reward! We are glad to hear that you're enjoying the time in our restaurant! You're ever welcome back!
