Find out what German restaurants to try in Heidelberg. Home to the oldest university in Germany, Heidelberg was hit hard during 17th-century wars and rebuilt in the 18th century with baroque buildings. For a pleasant walk, stroll through the historic city center's Gothic streets. Be sure to take in Heidelberg Castle, the symbolic heart of the city; Alte Brucke, a beautiful 18th-century bridge; and the Student Jail. Built as long ago as the 16th century, it was used to keep mischievous students off the streets for three days to a month at a time. And they say Penn State is the number-one party school!

Joachim HeÃ, former owner and patron of the well-known restaurant "Goldener Pflug" with a 17-year-streak of a Michelin Star in Heiligkreuzsteinach-Eiterbach, took over the Herrenmühle restaurant in Heidelberg in 2015. With his characteristic style, Mr. He
Hotel recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Spent 4 hours eating 7 courses...everything was amazing. The soup, the fish, the venison...everything. We met the chef by accident on our way out and he was very sweet and humble. An incredible dining experience overall.

We ate here twice - dinner and lunch. For dinner we had mixed of sausages and apple pie for dessert and it was great. The service was great too. For lunch we had pork knuckles with salad and cheese spaetzel. Love the cheese spaetzel but the pork knuckle was dry and hard as rock. Itâs almost like they reheat something thatâs overnight. The lunch service was bad as well. I guess it boils down to whether you have a good server for the day who can recommend you the good food to order. The outdoor seating was great. They have English menu and price was reasonable.

We wanted somewhere 'ordinary' in the best sense, took a Number 5 tram from the centre and weren't the least disappointed. In fact, this was one of the nicest meals of our ten-day holiday. Succulent steak for me, tasty chicken noodles for my wife, with superb side-salads. German spirits to end with. All served by an enthusiastic and helpful waiter who seemed absolutely delighted to welcome two English visitors. We walked back to the centre along quiet streets.

Had roast beef here and it is not what I expected. Itâs 2 slices of beef cooked in some salty gravy. The red cabbage was good. We didnât enjoy the food hence decided not to get dessert. Location was great, situated just across the Necktar River by the old bridge.

Traditional fine-dining restaurant with hotel rooms located directly in the center of the old town of Heidelberg. You will find the ideal place to sit back, relax and enjoy!
I had dinner with friends on a Monday during the week before Christmas. The place was packed and almost too noisy. The food was a good interpretation of traditional German fare. Overall the place is pricey, but the quality was worth it (we paid 240 Euros for four, one dish each with drinks and a bottle of wine). What I did not like was that the servers had an attitude and were rather inefficient. For example, it took two reminders for us to finally get the wine we ordered. Really?

Schnitzelbank did not disappoint! The best German meal that we had during our trip through the country. I'm a huge foodie so I'm always looking for the best restaurant or hole-in-the-wall spots. The restaurant served some of the best popular German dishes. Everything that we ordered was cooked perfectly and delicious. Already planning to go back just to eat here!
