Top in the Odenwald this restaurant offers not only a good food, also a very good view is served. In the summer with a nice terrace. The restaurant offers a seasonal menue and also regional dishes. Good taste!
I attended a weekend board meeting for a Christian youth program. For dinner we (5) chose to eat at "Zur Schmelz".They accommodated us without any problem. The well tasting food was served fast, the waiter was attentive without interrupting conversations.Im looking forward to get back to that restaurant and enjoy another meal.

We had a great evening family get together with the help of the efficient friendly staff at this restaurant. The choice of food was comprehensive and local. The servings were wholesome and well prepared. The decor is very welcoming and would not be out of place in the highest class of hotel anywhere. This place is a true revelation. An hour or so out of Frankfurt or Mannheim, you can come for the forests and the air, and enjoy a hearty meal as well.

High above Fürth/ Odenwald there is in the Forest the traditional Gasthaus. You cannot pay with credit card , but you can gourmet what you call Odenwälder Spezialitäten and Apfelwein. The place is still family operated . Outside you view the paddock with horses and sheep , occasional you spot a dear .Many hikers or bikers stop also moon their way to Hammelbach there .Any time , we stop we enjoy it , independent of the season
The dining facilities at our lodging were temporarily closed, and our hosts in Hammelbach recommended Hagen. We called for a 7:30PM reservation. We arrived about 7:32PM and were surprised to be gently admonished for being late. It was soon cleared up, as the reservation had been noted as a 6:30PM. Nonetheless, our table was ready, menus given, and orders taken.A salad bar accompanied most meals, and this was our first experience with this in Germany. There were about a dozen items: the usual leafy mix, tomatoes, cucumbers, quartered boiled eggs, but also (as should be expected) the tasty German salads: WeiÃkraut, Karottensalat, Grünbohnen, and more. The restaurant was busy, so the salad bar showed a little "wear and tear," but was a nice addition all things considered. Our main courses were the rump steak with onions and fries, and the turkey with curry sauce and sweet potato fries. The turkey dinner arrived at least 5 minutes before the steak. (About 6 plates passed our table en route to other diners in the interim.) When the steak finally came and was cut, it was declared perfectly done! The turkey was also good, and the sweet potato fries were wonderful! The price was reasonable, and the place was busy (and a little noisy natutally) with customers of all ages. With relatively few choices in the area, Hagen is a good option.

We discovered the restaurant when they were providing recipes for Lufthansa years ago. Since then we have been coming here from time to time and have never been disappointed. This is not an up-market, chic restaurant but a solid family-run place where you can get a decent meal at a reasonable price. We prefer the traditional dishes (such as turkey breast in November) and have twice been for Christmas dinner. The service is efficient and friendly and the main room very cosy. I don't know if they speak English but anyone getting to this neck of the woods probably understands enough basic German to get by.

What a great way to spend an afternoon - amazing cakes, great coffee and excellent service - as well as a spectacular and relaxing location. It helped make our trip from Australia so much more memorable. Because there were a small group of us we had the privilege of being able to sample several different cakes and would definitely recommend both the marzipan cake and Riesen Windbeutel as both were delicious. Also, we found the service to be exemplary with the waitress and owner taking the time to talk to us and make us feel most welcome. It is a pity that we had to come so far to have enjoyed such an experience.
