Let me start off with some positive words to make sure the excerpt you see in the search results is good: this place was amazing, the food was amazing, the service was outstanding and they trusted us to pay by wire when we got home because we couldn't pay in situ.Coming from the Netherlands, we were planning to visit the Zoo in Duisburg by car and to have dinner around Duisburg before returning home. We found this restaurant through Tripadvisor, and the following features drew our attention: you could eat in the garden (it was a beautifully sunny day) and they specialised in fish. It was right on the banks of the river Rhine, and it was not too far out of the way since we had a car. If you rely on public transport, it may be a whole lot tougher to get there, which is a shame for tourists looking for great food in Duisburg. But if you have a car, I strongly advise you to visit this place! There was ample space for free parking. No reservations in the garden, but it wasn't all that crowded when we arrived and we could get seated straight away.We require gluten-free preparation of our meals, and while they weren't familiar with the concept, they listened attentively and our food was prepared without any gluten at no extra charge (we experienced no problems at all.) While perusing the menu, we got a plate of fresh prawns, and later we also got a complementary plate of scallop-like shells (I forgot their name) to help kill the time until our main dish arrived. The amount of available types of fish was astonishing judging by the menu only, and then there was even a list of "daily stuff from the market" that wasn't even on the menu. We ordered a "mix of fish, give us what you've got" and a smoked zander. During our ordering, the staff was happy to help us decide by giving advise based on what type of fish we knew we liked, and they translated german fish names we weren't familiar with. Some waiters spoke a bit of Dutch, and I guess all of them spoke English. This place has its own smoking oven, and I highly recommend ordering your favourite fish smoked. It takes a while (they freshly smoke everything on demand) but it is definitely worth it! It was probably the best zander I had ever eaten. Moreover, both our plates came with an extra side of panfried catfish, which was delicious as well. Also, there was a bevy of sauces, all in nice silverware, and there was a huge bowl of traditional bratkartoffeln (baked potatoes with bacon and maybe some onion.) Of course, this being Germany, there was a nice selection of beers on tap.One second minor downside (the first being that they did not know what gluten-free entailed before we explained it to them) is that you can only pay cash. We did not know this in advance, so we didn't bring any. I offered to drive to an ATM, leaving my girlfriend behind as a hostage, but they just gave me their bank account number and told me to wire the money to them when I got home, which I guess is an enormous sign of good faith. While the river was close, you couldn't see it from the garden - but there were flowers and a small menagerie, so there was plenty of atmosphere regardless. While we were having dinner, the owner came by and asked whether everything was okay and whether our dietary requirements were met. It was clear that this was a guy who enjoyed his job. I wish this place was in my own city instead of in Duisburg. So one last time: if you're in or near Duisburg and have a car, definitely consider this place!

Eigentlich möchte man alles mitnehmen.

Visiting a friend that lives in Dinslaken, I ended up at this restaurant on a rainy Sunday for lunch. When the person at the door asked us if we had reservations, I thought he was joking, but soon realised that this is a local favourite haunt for lunch on a Sunday. I had the hunter schnitzel, a huge portion of deliciously breaded fried pork with a mushroom sauce and French fries, and a nice salad buffet. This town is not a usual tourist destination in Germany, and this restaurant caters to the local clientele, which are both good since we ended up having a great lunch in what I guess is a traditional Sunday atmosphere in this part of the northern Rhine region. Good beer too, and the complimentary schnapps went down well too.

Our German friends took us here for a meal: we had a mixed salad sharing platter and I had the sea bass: delicious.Excellent, prompt service (server made an effort to speak English and described the menu items) with an authentic German menu.
