The restaurant has a long tradition in the Palatinate, in my opinion for two reasons: 1) famous guests taken there by the former German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, and 2) excellent cuisine. We were there on business, and the restaurant downstairs was closed. We had our food in a room adjacent to the main restaurant (cosy wood panels) on the main floor, but the food was from Schwarzer Hahn. The cuisine did not disappoint, and the highlight was the main dish (excellent lamb)! The wine list is a long selection of highlights from the Palatinate and other regions - something for everyone and mostly every price range. The service was top. It was my first experience and hopefully not the last. The other restaurant which I forgot the name is also good for more casual lunch or dinner.

The Gutsausschank Spindler was founded in 1933 by Heinrich Spindler opened as a tavern to pour out the estate's wine. After generations Josef (1904) and Johanna (1955) exceeded 80 years later, the great-grandson Florian (1982) on the training and years of
Steps from the residence of a family friend who goes back 4 generations, this is where she took us for our special dinner in Forst. Everyone knows everyone and you feel right at home. The menu is in German -- no translations -- although the young proprietor (son of founder) spoke very good English. Their own wines are great -- why go off piste with outside wines? This is a real gem. No idea how much it cost -- our friend hosted -- but it all seemed reasonable.

French/German and local specialities served in a calm and elegant ambience. Our concept is to cook only with local and 100% organic ingredients.
The wait staff were so friendly. The food all natural, uniquely presented and fresh. Everyone really loved their meal. They even stayed open longer so we could celebrate my birthday. Don't miss this restaurant if you are in the Deidesheim area!

The town of Deidesheim gets a lot of tourist traffic in the summer, so it can be difficult to find a good spot to eat without a reservation. Keep that in mind. Getting here a little early in the evening helped in that regard. The menu is a bit limited, but the entrees and apps are all solid (mostly regional specialties) and the service is great. I came here with a former student and we ate well off one appetizer and one entree (which came with a very large salad). I don't recall the menu being in English, but if you have learned the words for some of the local specials (leberknodel, saumagen, bratwurst, etc.) you should do fine.

This is a less- known stop in the charming town of Deidesheim. Excellent value, bright minimalistic diningroom with arched ceilings, creative menu blending traditional specialties with healthful modern ingrediens/cooking techniques.I had Pike- perch fillet with sauteed savoy cabbage and sweet potato mash that was delicious and my husband had the traditional Saumagen platter that was a generous portion but also exceptionally good.We took a case of the Riesling home with us.

This place offers the regular local cuisine but also several nice salads and other (vegetarian) dishes, and daily specials. Always good quality! The wine list is representative of the area with several excellent choices. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the meals arrived swiftly whenever we went there to have dinner. The prices are quite reasonable as compared to other places in Deidesheim -a touristic town, where you can also find several places that tend to overcharge a bit...The locals are naturally aware of this fact and come here rather often, hence it is better to reserve a table in advance!

We had fish, the local speciality Schweinsmagen and kraut. It was well prepared but not better than that. The fine dining from the sister restaurant did not shine to the secondary restaurant.

The name for the region in which Deidesheim is located is der Pfalz (âthe Palatinate,â from the Latin word palatium, meaning âpalaceâ), referencing the period in Germany history during which it was ruled over by a prince of Holy Roman Empire. The Pfalz is known for two dishes: Saumagen (âsowâs stomachâ) and Leberknodel (âliver dumplingâ). While the former may not sound particularly appetizing, it has been enjoyed by the many heads of state German Chancellor Helmut Kohl brought to Deidesheim. The latter is kind of like a meatball made from pork. The restaurant Leopold at Weingut von Winning, also in the Michelin Guide, serves a dish it calls âPfalz Trilogyâ (a plate of house-made Bratwurst and Leberknodel along with Saumagen made by a town butcher, all complemented by Riesling sauerkraut and mashed potatoes) for less than 17 Euros. Itâs what I ordered and it was fabulous!

We came here for a birthday party with friends. I had soup with pork dumplings followed by a rib eye steak with onions and pan fried crispy potato slices follow by handkasse and Liptaur kasse. The soup was tasty, the steak one of the best I have had in a long time and the cheese super tasty. Well done to Peter and all the staff for a great evening...
