Discover Restaurants offering the best German food in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Best known as the capital of Charlemagne's Frankish empire, today's Aachen sits at the juncture where Germany meets the Netherlands (the Dutch know it as Aken) and Belgium (where "Walloons" call it Aix-la-Chapelle). But Aachen's history goes back even further than 8th-century Charlemagne. Roman soldiers dating back to the 1st century AD cherished its hot springs (as did Charlemagne, who loved a good spa day just as much as the next guy). Aachen Cathedral, northern Europe's oldest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the city's main attraction.

There are many places to grab some lunch in Aachen, but finding a decent table to sit down is difficult during the weekend. Dinette's front lounge was fully occupied but round the back are more tables. Staff quickly accommodated us. Their specialty is Flammkuchen, similar to flatbread. The risotto is also recommended, not overcooked (as is often the case) and with the right amount of 'bite'.

We were visiting this years Christmas Market, looking for a sit down meal, walked past many but this restaurant stood out, tucked in a side alley behind the cathedral, small but quaint, been serving since that 1400s, food was traditional German with a little flair, very reasonable priced, nice selection on the menu and friendly staff, well worth a stop

Enjoy classically and professionally interpreted German gastronomic specialities. The Karl`s Wirtshaus is the successful mixture of a modern inn, a restaurant, a cafe and a communicational site for the young and the young at heart.
Food was good, but the waitress was unfriendly, tough and aggressive. For our question, if we could charge our phone they said just "No!". They are not meeting their guests with smile. They are not helpful. With such attitude it's better not work with people. If you want to just eat - you can visit this place. If you want to stay in good mood and positive state - better avoid it.

"The Mighty Blacksmith" is tucked up the hill from the cathedral. My Sunday midday meal (post Mass) included a draft Hannen Alt, Paprika-Sahne-Schnitzel (breaded pork cutlet in cream sauce with bell peppers, mushrooms and onions) with a mixed salad and home fries prepared with bacon and onions. The pork was hot (temp) but a bit tough. The sauce was bland, although helped by the roasted veggies. The bacon gave the potatoes pizzazz.

... eine der ersten Adressen für gepflegte Gastlichkeit in angenehmer Atmosphäre und mit freundlichem Service !
If you're the type that likes 'old fashioned German food' eg schnitzel with pommes and vegetables, and furniture that hasn't been replaced since the early '80, then you might want to consider. We were here for a birthday last year which is the only reason we stayed... In all honesty, the food wasn't bad. It's just not what we normally eat and like

I had a wonderful day with my family at the Entenpfuhl. After a long walk through the forest, there is nothing better than a warm coffee and a piece of cake !!

That was the first restaurant with traditional food on my way from hotel to the city center and I definitely do not regret to enter in there. Climatic place, excellent service, huge portions of tasty food (the dessert was twice as big as I expected) and local beers - all together makes this place amazing. Little warning - the payment by bank card is accepted over 20 euro bill.

Located 300m from the old town centre. Lively and family run. Simple unsophisticated grub, and plenty of it. Very busy - when we phoned we were told they were full, but our hotel was able to book us a table for 4 at the time we wanted (and then it was definitely full!!).Service was a bit slow, but given the place was packed it was not surprising.
