A family pub in the village of Chineham, near Basingstoke, this lovely retreat boasts great fresh food, fine ales and no shortage of charm and character. With a spacious open-plan bar and a warm welcome from staff, you'll feel instantly at home at The Chi
Been a few times and had really good food & service. Unfortunately none on the 19th April. No service , despite booking a table. Ordered all at barFood quality gone downhill... didnt even taste the same, the chicken wings was completely different.. and HORRIBLE!!! Nachos burnt and dry chilli... HORRIBLE... loud music in the middle of the day, blaring in the restaurant area.... HORRIBLE.Afraid to say I wont be back with this new chef, new ideas... utter rubbish... McDonalds could cook better.I am sorry you did not receive the level of service we strive for, and you should expect, on the day you visited. Please do come and give us another try and you will see that the teething problems you experienced on the day of your visit when we were making changes to our staff have been fully resolved.

You will easily find The Spring Inn on the Bath Road just a few minutes drive from Junction 12 of the M4 and close to Reading, Theale and Pangbourne. We are far enough from all that hustle & bustle and you'll know you're in Royal Berkshire countryside! No
We were travelling from Newbury, but looking for somewhere not too far from Reading, to dine with friends and the Spring Inn was recommended. So thank you friend for your excellent recommendation. This restaurant is easily accessible off the A4 and there is plenty of parking and space outside to eat or drink, if the weather is good.Inside the restaurant is huge, but light, airy and spacious. it has a rustic, but modern look and their napkins are real fabric- quite a rarity these days in mid-range restaurants. The menu had a great selection - especially nice to see we could still get an amazing roast at a very good price on a Sunday evening. Divine meat and great portions; and there was no charge for a an extra jug of gravy. We loved every dish and practically licked the plates clean! We were all sorry we didn't have enough space for a pudding. The staff were really great and very friendly. I would highly recommend a visit to the Spring Inn. We will definitely be back- thanks for a great meal.

Beautiful village pub in the Hampshire countryside. Serving well kept real ales, interesting freshly prepared and locally sourced food. Whether your visit is just for leisure, business or a special occasion we are sure you'll find what you're looking for.
We were staying at a nearby hotel and this was the closest to us - sadly not the best - food was very slow and the loos were extremely unclean. The food was average but once itâs taken so long to arrive and you have kids beside themselves with hunger and boredom you donât have much room left to enjoy it. The worst thing was that there were clearly locals who got served first but had ordered after us ! Very much a locals pub and not somewhere to go for a family meal. Really saddened to receive this review. I have sent a private message, an attempt to make amends and gain more information so as to de brief the team. We have had a couple of very busy shifts recently where we struggled to keep up a bit as well as a bit of a technical situation in the kitchen - we thought we'd managed to pull it off - obviously not! The main point I'd like to get across is that under no circumstances do we ever serve locals/regulars faster than anyone else. We value all our patrons - otherwise we'd never get new regulars. Maybe it was what they ordered? I hope you do get time to respond but in the mean time we are going to crack on with being the family pub serving great food (with clean toilets) that I feel we are.

Welcoming you to the wonderful Berkshire countryside is The Hindâs Head - a beautifully restored 15th Century coaching inn in Aldermaston. With fresh food, real ales on tap, the pub promises a great place to dine, drink and stay.
We came here as we had great meals in the past but oh my goodness. What a disappointment this time. We ordered 2 chicken Caesar salads and they were dreadful. Rock hard chicken, two rashers of bacon slopped on top and mountains of lettuce. Anchovies that we requested to be removed. They werenât. We pointed out to the waiter it was an awful meal and he ignored us. When we got the bill we saw nothing reduced for the awful meal especially the chicken. When I said âthe meal was awful, whatâs going onâ the reply was we have an agency chef!!! Really!! No excuse. You have just lost us as customers. Very sad as I thought this restaurant used to be good. Dear bertieThank you for taking the time to feedback to us regarding you meal and for bringing this problem to my attention. I am sorry to hear that things were not great and I will be investigating this with both the kitchen and front of house teams that worked on Thursday evening. Once again my sincere apologies and thank you for bringing this to my attention.best wishesLeigh PhillipsGeneral Manager

Has all the hallmarks of a place in terminal decline. Limited menu with only mains and puds. No starters. Food unremarkable: standard fayre done Ok but nothing more. Ambience zero, atmosphere the same. Prices cheaper than when it was in previous hands but now there's no reason to go out of your way to visit (which there was before) No real choice on beers. Average in every respect.

You cannot book a table if you have a large party. We were a party of 10 and my husband and I arrived before the family. upon arrival we asked if they could get us a table for 11, someone didnât turn up. We were told we had to wait until every member of our party arrived before they would seat us and they could not sit us all at one table. My inclination was to leave at that point but the family were all travelling separately from various locations and was too awkward to rearrange. We were finally offered a table for 6 and circular table set for 4 beside it. I guess had our missing guest turned up they would have squashed her onto that table. The lady who took our convoluted order was lovely and very professional unlike her colleague. The food was great. We had a variety of foods from the menu and carvery and everyone enjoyed their meal. Just a shame we were not sat together and the welcome was so unfriendly.Good Morning,Unfortunately when sitting large tables we insist that the party are here before we sit you as there can be a long delay on all of the party arriving. As we have a small restaurant we can only sit two large parties on the same table. We did inform you that it would be on two tables and did show you where you would be sitting as the other tables were taken. You agreed to the seating arrangement and we did get you seated together. We tried this as we had heard it was quite good. However expensive and distinctly average all round. Trying to upsell from the off is never a good start. Pushing olives bottles of water etc from the start isn't what we expected. We ordered 2 rounds of drinks during the night both times one item was missing. Starters delivered except for one that we had to wait 5 mins for. Starters a mixed bag Camembert and Scotch egg good. White bait over cooked, prawns ok ish. Main course all came out ok. Lamb , Halloumim Burger ok. Fillet Steak very average to poor no taste and one had to be sent back as should have been rare wasn't even warm. Beef Wellington at £27.5 was abysmal. Steak inside was over cooked, tasteless and and was more like an overcooked roasting joint. Pastry soggy and didn't taste any other filling. Service wasn't very good but one lady seemed to be covering whole place. There are alot better places around.

A traditional public house set in the beautiful village of Mortimer West End, amongst picturesque walking routes and close to Silchester Roman City Ruins, Reading & Basingstoke. The Red Lion @ Mortimer West End is the quintessential Great British Pub and
Average... which isnât good enough tbh...My wife had the pie... she didnât finish it... shortcrust pastry case with a mushroom-heavy, quite dry pie and a puff pastry lid... didnât do it for her... I had steak - which was nice... good sauce. The lovely big flat mushroom was such a disappointment... deep fried and then grilled apparently- but it was dripping with oil. Really gross. I asked for replacement thinking it must be an error... which they provided without question - but turned up exactly the same. Service was ok... average... which isnât good enough in my view. The place was dead and had 3 staff waiting on just two tables - it wasnât attentive enough. Would have had a burger, but I really didnât get the proposition... you pay £11 for your burger and then top it up with âwhatever you wantâ... which actually costs you £1 per item! But thereâs no list of items... random. Pizzas - again, random options for your own toppings... 50p for a splash of Tobasco...?!! Donât take the piss! Badger Best Bitter was a really good pint. Itâs average. But only because there are some good bits and some bad bits that average out... Iâll only remember the bad bits though as the good bits arenât special. Shame - itâs not really worth the effort of having to drive there.

Eating at this homely yet sophisticated pub (with a menu so local that the eggs, chicken, honey and ham are bred and made on the premises) feels like being in the dining room of a dear friend. Muddy wellington boots welcome. (The Times, May 1st 2010)Descr
This charming gastro pub has extremely high standards of both food quality and service. Took 10 close friends to celebrate my partners birthday. A group with diverse tastes, allergies and maturity were all catered for with the utmost courtesy. Now onto the food. The Wellington serves local produce and has a menu that oozes quality. If you are a real foodie you will not be dissapointed.
