A gem of a find overlooking the water in Limkilns. Very friendly and welcoming pub with a great choice of both food and drinks, including local ales. We popped in three times whilst we stayed in the area - good quality lunch time menu and even when we just stopped off for a coffee one afternoon it was a really welcoming (I recommend you try the homemade scones). Thursday was open mic night for local musicians and was a really lively friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend it if you're in the area.Hi Sue,Thanks for taking the time to write your lovely review. I’m glad you enjoyed our home made scones. They are delicious We look forward to welcoming you back again next time you are in the area. Many Thanks,Sarah and Kirk

The 4 rooms above the pub were accessed up steep exterior steps & we wondered what we would find. However, we were impressed with our clean, newly refurbished contemporary room & although this was tiny, we had a great walk-in shower in the en-suite. The bar & restaurant have also been recently renovated. We shared the 'Tapas Tuesday' special dinner for 2 which was rather too much. The next evening I had the excellent salmon & hubby had frajitas. Breakfast is served in the bar & is open to non-residents too. Great location to visit Edinburgh as the local buses pass the door. Parking spaces behind the pub are for room guests only & rather tight, we needed to reverse out onto the main road.

Well. I love my food and a nice beer. We came in off the canal after cruising from Falkirk. I think this is the first canal side pub we have passed. We walked in for lunch and were asked if we made a booking? Ahhh no. Who books a pub lunch? You will just have to wait for us to make a table. We were told. Saw on the way in we were at a Michelin recommended pub. Wow impressive. No. Service was poor. Prices were expensive foe what was just a well written pub menu. Had to ask for more drinks. Water bottle stayed empty the whole meal. Tables around us stayed un cleaned and cluttered. Then had to wait around and ask for our bill. This would all be ok if I only paid a Tenner for my meal but a pie and veg was 15 quid. Sorry but that is forty bucks were I come from and that is a lot of money. Nice food. Over priced and un attentive staff. Not really recommended. Thank you for your review - although we are disappointed to read it. We do find over the summer - in particular August - that we can be exceptionally busy and so we do recommend booking. However, we can have spaces for walk-ins like yourself - the reason our staff would have asked if you had a booking is a lot of our guests have special requests or dietary requirements which are noted whilst taking our bookings and - as procedure - are requested to ask whether a booking has been made. However, we will be addressing the levels of service which you have raised as this is not the standard we expect from our team. We have excellent review for our service and our food and I'm sorry that on this occasion you were unable to experience this.
